Proven coach. I like it.
I'm not sure - he left UCLA and that place was a mess
He took ucla to three final fours
He won 26 games in 2009 before falling to nova in the second round
He took a step back in 2010, but had the, back in the second round in 2011
He went 19-14 (11-5) in 2012 but missed the dance
He was 25 games in 2013, won the pac 10, but was fired
That's not bad.
I'm not sure if his "win at all costs" attitude fits a Catholic school's image
If I remember correctly, Howland was pretty high up on the list of suspected "cheaters" in the last poll I saw on the topic. His fellow NCAA coaches were the ones interviewed for this poll (anonymously of course). DePaul could have certainly done better IMO but they obviously went for the big name and the "wins", and apparently chose to ignore all the other warning signs about the character issue and his reputation within the industry.
There's no doubt in my mind that DePaul will be better (hard not to) and get some players, which is a good thing, but I would rather have seen someone more deserving and a little less "shady" than Howland get that job.
This is all because of a rumor started by Adam Zagoria. There's no confirmation from either party. I think, though, that it would be an excellent move for DePaul.
I'd be shocked if Howland took that job. Zero appeal.
Had nothing to do with Adam Zagoria. It was an anonymous poll conducted by an ESPN staff writer involving NCAA basketball coaches, which I personally read. Not a rumor at all.
