Oklahoma - Some Random Initial Thoughts

1. Hield has been outstanding, but Jordan Woodard has been solid too. 22 against A&M (on 5 threes) and 5 assists. Going to be hard to sag off the other shooters to stop Buddy. I can live with Buddy hitting crazy shots as long as his teammates don't see wide open looks -- which they did in Hawaii.

2. Cousins is a terrific player but wasn't the same scorer that he was in Pearl Harbor down the stretch. More of a facilitator now but still a threat to score. Only one game with less than 3 assists in a month.

3. They might roll several guys, but they do not seem to get much out of their bench. These starters are in phenomenal shape for the amount of time Kruger gives them.

4. VCU gave Oklahoma a ton of problems on the perimeter - 11 made threes. They got 29 second half points (no, you read that right) from Hield to win the game. The rest of the team had 12. I doubt we are going to go 4-32 again from the perimeter.

5. As a team, they do not shoot free throws particularly well. Hield is excellent (88%) and Woodward around 80-81%, but Cousins, Spangler, and Lattin (55%) all shoot lower than 70%. Huge advantage Nova at the free throw line if it comes down to that.

selling flash seats for final 4.

Does anyone have any experience on this front?

I picked up 2 tickets in the NCAA lottery for this year's final four. They are in the 600 level - corner tickets. If nova wins tonight I am happy to move them to a nova supporter for face value as i will look to probably get different seats.

However - does anyone have experience trying to sell Flash Seats. Can you sell them online with stubhub or something of the like?

Observations from game

watching the game again this morning. Some thoughts

A. We were really sloppy in the first 2-3 minutes with turnovers, missed shots, etc. Yet our defense kept Kansas from creating an early 8-0 or 10-0 run

B. Ochefu was really outstanding when he touched the ball on offense. Felt like we should have gotten him more looks, rather than less. He was also a beast on the boards

C. Arch sat quite a bit in the waning minutes of the first half with two fouls. Our team held their own with Brunson and Booth out there

D. HUGE three from KJ at the end of the half. Great timeout and play call

E. As has been mentioned elsewhere, Bridges energy level was fantastic. He made us not miss KJ with the four fouls, while clearly not as good on offense, he's our best defender

F. Kansas seemed really tight on offense - more than a couple of air balls in the first half. We just seemed to want it more

G. We played a lot of 1 guard, 4 forward in the second half (if you count Hart, Beidges and KJ as forwards)

H. I think Kansas was a good matchup for us, actually a better matchup than Miami. They're good, they're deep, and skilled at every possession, but they did not have the ability to really abuse off the dribble. I think our zone had something to do with that

I. I think we got the better of the whistles, or at least didn't get hurt. Bad calls both ways, but overall we got more of the 50/50 calls

J. Last point - our bench was the difference. MB, DR, and PB played great minutes for us and I think most would have said Kansas had a depth advantage

Louisville Thoughts

Where do I begin?

Arrived right before tip Thursday night, thanks DJ Run for the tickets and convincing me to stay through the weekend. Got to watch the game next to a couple of Nova fans, shout out to Pat and his wife, great time with you guys, had a lot of fun dissecting the game and the team. Also, thank you Pat for telling me to come back for the weekend, best decision I ever made.

I dont know what else to say about the Miami game, I felt like if I put on a Nova jersey and shot the ball from the second level it would find its way in the basket. The two Miami fans next to em were stunned and just shook their heads. After the game hit up Live at Fourth, great spot, lots and lots and lots of students, made me feel like I am 19-21 years old again, unfortunately my body is not 19-21 years old and now am nursing the best 3 day hang over I will ever have.

Called my wife Thursday night, said "Honey book the fight on points, we are spending the weekend in Louisville, its my early birthday gift."

Louisville is an awesome awesome town for basketball, bourbon and sports in general. The fans know their stuff. Got to hang out with nardibynature as I was adopted by his family Friday and Saturday. Just a great time, the Nova energy on the streets was awesome, when my wife arrived late Friday I said straight up we are going to win and you are go witness something special. It was just the feel on the street, Nova fans were stoked ready and confident, Kansas fans looked like they had seen a ghost. Just a great vibe.

Hit up all the tourist attractions over the weekend, was interviewed by Louisville sports radio when they asked me if Jay would take the job once Pitino leaves I said "Ladies of Louisville Jay is taken". Louisville fans love love Nova, several said they always cheer for them and Jay apparently made the team stay and watch them play in the NCAA because they were going to the Big East.

On to Saturday, same Miami fans sat next to me, in an all Kansas section. The Miami guys saw me go nuts after the Hart and Arc three pointers, they turned and said we are now Nova fans. The passion in that arena from the players, the fans, the coaches was through the roof.

This win was not for us, not for the fans, not for the alumni, that win was for the team, that win was for Jayvaugn Pinkston who had a video going nuts after the game, for Kyle Lowry who didnt care that someone was interviewing him after the win, it was for Mike Daly, it was for Jay, it was for Jay's family, it was for the players family, and most importantly it was for the players, on the team and the ones ones before them. That is who it was for. Seeing Daniel go crazy in the lobby, watching the smile on Hart's face, seeing Arc hug it out with Jay, seeing everyone just go crazy. That is what its all about.

I had been in Boston and Louisville. Boston we were happy to be there after the game people went crazy and the party was insane.

In Lousville the vibe was different, we are not done, we have one goal, the thought as I walked back with a giant smile on my face Saturday was this is our time, our year. Gives me chills just thinking about.

Shout out to those I met from the board (Ace, Quarterman, Trip, DJ, danmcguireetc), shout to Kris Jenkins Dad and Mikal Bridges Dad for letting me talk their ears off about how great their sons are.

Special Thanks to DJ Run for the tickets, you are the man and I owe you for them. Let me know how to settle up and a few rounds of drinks are on me in Houston this weekend.

See you guys in Houston for the long weekend. Oh and by the way I am bringing the Pops this time around. Pumped, excited cant wait.

Coaching Excellence

I really dont think Jay gets enough credit. Love to hear from everyone.

This year he was masterful he used the regular season to master several different defensive schemes. How many on here questioned the Zone when we werent playing it well.. We now throw out 4 sometimes 5 different defensive schemes in a game and we play them all extremely well.

Listening to Calhoun today he was raving about Jay and the way we throw different defenses at teams and how he thinks we can go all the way.

Oklahoma

I know people will continue with the way too soon discussion about playing UNC, but I thought I would share my very confident thoughts on the game we know is in front of us.

I feel incredibly confident in this game, and think we actually match up with them really, REALLY well. Kansas was able to play a really difficult to crack man defense that jammed up our shooters, took away all our passing lanes, and forced us into one on one scoring. I don't think OK has the personnel to do that to us, particularly with the way Ochefu and Jenkins have progressed. We should really get a lot of good shots. OK also has no depth, so that will come into play as well.

On defense, I think we will NOT put all our focus on doing Buddy, but instead make sure Cousins and Woodard are not able to get great looks. Our match up zone should get plenty of use again to keep them out of the lane, and Bridges will no doubt again be a factor.

We learned from our first OK game two big things...limit our own offensive rebounding to ensure solid transition defense, and get good shots...Not first shots.

Everyone is already picking OK, but I think we end up winning BIG.
