We should be so grateful

Just finished watching the postgame press conference. We have the perfect coach for our great university. The way Coach Wright deals with the press, the obvious concern and love he has for his players, both as students and as athletes, and his overall positive outlook reflects so well on both our team and our university.

I could not be prouder than I am today to be an alumnus of this great school.

Sex Reasons I think we can beat OK this time around

I believe we can beat OK this time around for the following reasons.

1. Jenkins is nothing like the player he was when we play OK the first time. He had 6 points in 26 minutes and has improved so much both offensively and defensively. He can drive to the hoop more now. OK will now have to move their defense out to get him leaving opportunities for us to go inside or drive to the hoop..
His defense is much more refined and he is quicker and reliable.

2. Bridges has become a monster on defense and show great signs of becoming an great offensive player. OK had 12 turnovers the 1st game and I think we can turn them over more. He only played 21 minutes against OK
and is much better pacing himself now and more confident.

3. Ochefu is much more focused than he was on Dec. 7. He is much more in control and defense and passing are much sharper.

4. Reynolds has improved dramatically since the first game. He played 13 minutes with 3 fouls. Much more in control now and more confident.

5. Hart only had 10 points in that game and I don't remember him driving to the basket much.

6. Arch will be Arch and that is good.

New Fans in the Making!

My daughter never really got into basketball growing up, despite me being a diehard Nova fan, watching and listening to all the games (trying to hold the radio in the right position to get reception pre internet, etc.). About 3 years ago, she went with me to the St Joe’s game in the Pavilion (thanks to Tom Plavcan having a couple of extra tickets), and based on the energy and excitement at that game started getting into it a bit and following at a low lever, recognizing players like Arch (although for a about a year she thought his first name was Archie), Ochefu, etc.

As the fates would have it, she and her husband were in Lexington for an extended Easter weekend. I had suggested that they might want to go a little further and check out a game. Come Saturday, the light bulb went on that they were not that far away, and Nova was playing. Around 5:30 PM I get and email with a picture of 2 tickets to the NCAA Regional final with nothing other than a subject line that said “look what we got”. Needless to say, I was both shocked and pleasantly surprised.

Her husband was not a basketball fan at all and had never even been to a college basketball game (they are both engineers, and both went to Stevens where sports are a low priority). Well, they could not have picked a better game to indoctrinate him – he had a blast. They ended up in section 109 among a small contingent of Nova fans and some local Louisville folks. Apparently there was a real obnoxious Kansas fan a few rows up who was so annoying, all the Louisville folks converted to cheering for Nova. They both had a great time and saw a great game in person.

Meanwhile on the home front, I am usually relegated to the basement to watch, which is fine as I can freely express myself there, but on Thursday night and last night my wife, who rarely gets interested, insisted on watching on the main TV in the family room. Even she got into it, yelling at the refs bad call and cheering when things went our way.

All in all, a great weekend was had by all.

11 Hours

That is how long my drive is back to North Carolina. Let me put it this way, my modest Honda with Villanova license plates, with a V sticker on the back window (and a USMC Law Enforcement Foundation plate frame) will be traveling through KENTUCKY, VIRGINIA, WEST VIRGINIA, and NORTH CAROLINA en route to Camp Lejeune. I saw a ton of UK/KU and UNC garbage on the way here, it is going to be a treat to drive home and spread the word. LOVE THIS TEAM, LOVE THIS STAFF.
