quote from Larranaga

Miami coach Jim Larranaga on Villanova shooting 62% from the floor and 10-15 from 3-point range:

"They're such an incredible offensive team we had no way of stopping them."

Think about that for a moment. A very good/great head coach with a great team, and very good athletic players in the sweet 16 couldn't stop us. This reminds me of the quote that Ricky Pitino said years ago "Villanova made a mockery of whatever we tried to do on defense."

Mikey and the Duke boys

Get to eat some crow. His press conference , albeit and answer to a stupid question was vulgar an non Catholic. I understand Duke has unprecedented success , just not when they have been seeded out west , question was asked he acted like a petulant 20 year old and then got his ass kicked. His point very valid is how does the failures of a Duke team seeded in the west bracket have anything to do with this Duke squad? Legitimate question just don't act like a stroke and then get run

Maryland v. Kansas

Both teams are very long. But it is a sloppy game. Guard play doesn't seem to be a strength on either end.

If KU wins, who defends Perry Ellis? Do we match up better with either team?

Kansas is a good team, but doesn't seem to be the same type of dominant squad they were in 2008 when we lost to them in the NCAA's.

They've never played better

Miami just had no answers once we busted them out of their pack line defense. Ochefu silenced all critics who said he can't go against other big men his size. Our zone....OUR ZONE!....my god who'd have thought we would shut down anyone with our zone? Amazing.

The game was over as soon as Arch dropped 13 in the first 8. Talk about focused!

Came across this, and first of all, as much as I love to win, I hate to see good players and good coaches lose and end their season/career like this. Second, what kind of questions are these guys asking? I mean, you have two seniors who have had great careers, and you choose to just ask them questions that basically come out to "you guys got the crap beat out of you, how does that feel?" I feel for the kids. Two great players who played great games, if they had beaten us I would have rooted for them all the way.

Elite Eight Omen?

My wife and I are fortunate enough to own a condo on Grand Cayman Island. We don't get down there too often, especially during the college BB season. In fact, the only Game I ever watched while we were down there was the Pitt Elite Eight game in 2009. Guess where we're going Saturday morning?

We should arrive at least an hour before the first game Sat night.

Go Cats!

This Year vs. Last Year

My brother and I had a discussion based on a tweet by Mark Titus (former Grantland hoops writer) who said that last year's team would beat this year's team by 10.

My bro and I both like this year's team more for a few reasons:

1. Jenkins is playing at a much higher level than Pinkston. He is truly a stretch 4 and makes us much more dangerous offensively.
2. When Ochefu is out, prefer Reynolds at the 5 over Pinkson simply due to height. (I thought Pinkston did a great job defensively senior year, but you can't coach length.)
3. We can mix it up more. We play zone quite often and go big more than BEEFER ever expected.
4. Ennis was fine but loved to play hero ball at times. Never liked his offensive game frankly. What we lose in D we gain in offensive stability.
5. Hilliard was tremendous his senior year. He was a big loss and isn't truly a replaceable part. But Hart, Arch and Jenkins have stepped in to fill by committee.
6. Bridges brings an X factor of length and athleticism we simply did not have last year. He allows us to play "small" but still have size.

It is easy to base it on results (Sweet 16 this year; no Sweet 16 last year). But I was ready to post this before the tournament but did not think it was the right time.

Thoughts?
