WNIT Rematch with Colorado

Whoa - deja vu! No site confirmed yet, but Nova will play Colorado in the Sweet 16 round of the WNIT. This will be a re-match of the Sweet 16 game of the 2008 WNIT when Nova travelled to Colorado.

In that game Nova controlled the entire game, bottling up their two speedy guards whose names were (no kidding!) Brittany Spears and Whitney Houston. With a nine point lead and the ball with about five minutes to go, Nova ran a perfect 28 second set, getting a wide open three. Alas, instead of a 12-point lead, the ball hit off the front of the rim, taken by Spears on the run at the foul line and off to the races for a pull up three. After a failed Nova possession, another long rebound went the other way and another Spears pull up three closed the gap to three points, just 30 seconds after it looked like Nova was a lock. We pretty much fell apart after that and lost by six or eight.

More fun facts. Colorado's current coach was a player whose career ended with a loss to Villanova at Tennessee in the NCAA regional semi-finals in 2003. Kate Fagan was a member of that team also. Kate was the Philly inquirer beat writer for the 76ers for a few years and is now an ESPN employee.

No matter where we play them, this will be a tall order as Sweeney will most likely be unavailable to play again. UPDATE: Game is Thursday in Boulder at 9 EST

Well so much for a home game on Sunday

Looks like we missed the home date by one basket... Oh, well, that is how it goes. I'm guessing the team will head out tomorrow for the next game in Illinois. They should have fun especially if they play well. I wonder if continued wins will bring them back home for any further games.

Tpenter, have you looked into this? ask Dean?

I do hope the girls will make it through at least a few rounds...

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Robby Andrews, a two-time NCAA champion in the men's 800 meters, has announced his decision to leave the Virginia track and field/cross country program.

"We want to wish Robby nothing but the best as he pursues future endeavors," Virginia director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer said.

A third-year from Englishtown, N.J., Andrews won the 2010 indoor and 2011 outdoor national championships in the 800 meters. In addition, he won two ACC Championships (indoor 800m and distance medley relay in 2010) and two Penn Relays Championship of America titles (4x800 relay in 2010 and 2011) and was a three-time All-American and five-time All-ACC honoree.

Tax Experts/question

I should probably know the answer to this but I don't. Therefore, I have a question for the collective wisdowm of the board. I saw that President Obama has put a proposal in his budget to end the tax benefits of 401K contributions for "the rich". His definition of rich has been anyone making over $200K. So here is my question: I run a small business. Let's say I provide a 5% match to all my employees. Let's say I have 5 of them making over $200K per year. If this proposal were to go into law, what does that mean? Specifically, here is my question; I understand the 401K contributions would no longer be pre-tax. Given today's savings rate I think that's a terrible idea but I'm the same guy arguing for a flatter code so yes I'm inconsistent here. I'll own that fact. However, what does that then do the matches employers provide? Since employers can provide the match up to 16,5; does this now all go away due to the tax treatment for "rich" employees? Isn't that a really stupid policy given the dearth of savings in this country? You don't only penalize the original contributions but I would assume, and this is the purpose to my question, the employer matches would not receive any preferential tax treatment either. Can anyone confirm how this might work?

Jim DeMint: LOSER

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) remains firmly in the purist camp, insisting that being in the minority is better than winning without adhering to core principles.

“I don’t want to be in the majority if we don’t have bold ideas and that we’re going to reform government,” DeMint said Wednesday.
