Anyone Fractured A Rib?

Sorry to hear that, gdog. I cracked 2 of mine last November. The only thing the doctor could do was prescribe Tramadol and I took 2 - 50mg tablets every six hours for 10 days. He also had me get an elastic band type vest that closed with Velcro which I wore for 2 weeks. It really was painful. Fortunately, the drugs let me sleep but the whole experience really sucked. Hope this helps you some.
It was a freak accident where a ladder fell on me in my garage and I guess it hit me just right. At my age, bones are a lot more brittle so I'm sure it's not the same as gdog's injury. I did like the zoned out effect the Tramadol caused

A relative did this recently. There's no way around it. You won't sleep much for like three weeks. Don't bother with stronger pain killers, they won't do enough and the side effects will add to the misery.
I've broken my hand, ankle, torn MCL, eardrum exploded, this is by far the worst shit I've ever dealt with. Cant move, cant breathe, talking hurts, cant do a thing. And u cant cast a rib. God forbid having to cough or sneeze, holy sh*t shoot me already.
Hire a good lawyer. Sue for mental anguish, loss of wages, punitive & compensatory damages.

After a protracted court case, you could garnish the WalMart warehouse wages of a broke-ass 5th tier fighter.
Advice that was given to me here couple years ago and it saved me: Take two Advil AND two Tylenol simultaneously. One relaxes muscles and one kills pain. It's a lifesaver. Not sure who gave that help but I am thankful. Whoever you are please take credit. I know how painful this is, and while muscle relaxants for a broken rib may not make sense, trust me, this is a miracle.

Haha. He's back! The worst part of this pain is having heinous muscle spasms that are excruciating. The whole area just locks up with any kind of movement. I need to try this double up dosage tmrw. If I can even get the **** out of bed.
The only thing I've heard different about combining Advil and Tylenol is to alternate them. So at 8 am, take 2 Tylenol and at 10 am take 2 Advil. Opposed to taking 4 pills at once. Don't know if it makes any difference to your stomach, but that's the way I've done it in the past.

You still need to stay on the same frequency you'd normally take them. I don't remember off the top of my head but you its something like 2 every 6 hours for Advil and 2 every 4 hours for tylenol. Read the package for doses and don't exceed the amount you can take in 24 hours. While we're sharing war stories, i burnt a nice hole at the base of my stomach from taking advil (along with copious amounts of alcohol), a few weeks of rib pain is awful but a whole year of stomach pain is not what you what you want to deal with afterwards.
Advil/Ibuprofen and Aleve/Naproxen metabolizes in the stomach, Tylenol/acetaminophen in the liver in case you ever need to decide which organ you'd like to harm.

I agree with whitechoc. Don't go overboard with all that.
Long term acetaminophen usage can mess up your liver nicely.
I don't advise ibuprofen on an empty stomach.

Yeah, I've fractured some ribs once. But it hurt me more than it hurt her. She just wouldn't listen.
Never fractured a rib, but both Marilyn Manson and I had some surgically removed so we could S our own D's

Stay strong, brother. I strained some type of small muscle in my rib cage a few years ago and it was a beast can't imagine what a break is like.
As I have said, this is the worst shit I've ever dealt with and I've broken all types of shit. It's 2 broken ribs to be exact (one broken, one cracked), dislodged cartiledge and a suspected muscle tear. All kinds of awesome. Flying high as we speak on Cyclobenzaprine. God bless this stuff.
Never broke or fractured but had a bad case of bruised ribs once and doc gave me a ton of that Tylenol 3 with codeine. Tried to avoid taking them outside of trying to sleep and that sucked. Don't envy you as I can imagine fractured feels even worse. .
