Women's 1000 was very interesting. Schappert's 2:45.65 was second behind LSU"s Lipsey's 2:44.20. Margey still holds the Armory record from earlier this year, 2:43.89. After cutting 5 sec. off her PB mile time at PSU, today she cut almost 6 sec. off her PB in the 1000.

Denault continues to run well -- third in the men's 1000 in 2:24.89

To expand on TFE's post above mily Emily ran 4:34 and change to anchor
the DMR team to a win; The other team members were Angel P, Nikki A,
and Faith F. I have never heard of The last girl.

I believe it was Michaela Wilkins, a freshman, who ran the 400 leg, not Faith Dismuke, a soph.

Solis just ran 4:07.04 for the mile

Some thoughts ...

Women's 1000m Championship - Schappert looked very, very good. Lipsey is one of the top middle distance runners in the country and Stephanie stayed with her until the end. Impressive. Salvages the disappointing soph class. A leg on one of the relays. Courtney Chapman again comes up short. Is she coming off some injury? Looked better in HS. Also a little broader in the beam than in HS. Needs to get in shape. Expected her to be the best in the soph class. Could say the same thing about Borroughs. Looked leaner and more fit in HS.

Women's Mile Championship -
Margey finished 4th - .6 sec behind Rachel Paul (G'town) in 3rd. She was 1.5 sec better than Paul in HS at 1500. However, Chapus (14), Stanford, was top HS senior, last season. Don't think she ran a smart race; spent too much out in the second lane running wide. Still Margey is a major performer and a possible leg on a relay. Neutts?

Women's DMR Championship - Lipari… Outstanding. And do not forget Akande. She brought team from way back in 3rd to 2nd. Have to find a stronger 400 leg. People mistakenly dismiss the importance of the 400 leg because it is the shortest. Wrong. It is all about the time difference and VU gives up several seconds on the 400 (3 to 5 sec). Piccirillo looked strong. Big girl, but about 10 pounds over weight. Check out the video. Still running with Weisenbach says something since Agee Wilson barely beat her at 800.

Men 500 College - Nice run by Chou. Was surprised. Went through 400 on 50.7, which is about his best time for the 400. Maybe there is more to him. Does not look like a runner. A bit chunky.

Men's 500m Championship - Ellison is the man. Like a couple of other VU runners, he might have waited too long to go get his man.

Men's 800m Championship - Fitzsimons looked good. Waited way too long to make his move. Still not sure he is back to where he was in HS at outdoor championships…?

Men's 1000m Championship - Didn't realize Denault had that type of "speed." Came through 800 in around 1:54+. As at Penn St., let the field get too far ahead of him before he made his move. O'Sullivan is a good looking runner. Nice form, but not enough strength... yet

Men's Mile College - Think we should pay more attention to Dusty Solis. Nice win at Penn St., last week, in 1000m. Now wins mile in 4:07+. Looked strong. That was better than the Mile Open. Would have been 8th in Championship race. Is he a possible leg on Penn 4xMile?

Men's Mile championship - Tully actually finished 2nd in his heat to Rono. Stayed with him until last lap or so. Might he have gone faster in a faster heat? Believe Tully adds to VU's group of significant runners. Possible leg on 4xMile?

Men's DMR Championship - Where was VU? Is someone injured? When do they hope to run a qualifying race? Oregon is the team to watch. Their first leg (1200) fell and then came back. Outstanding. Brett Johnson (NJ), formerly of Virginia. Was VU ever involved in his recruiting of the transfer?

Men / Women 400m Championships - VU has nothing. As mentioned above, it will hurt the women in the DMR. Men can compensate by letting Ellison run 400 and Fitzsimons run 800. VU did try for Patrick Farmer a couple of years ago, but still nothing. Not good.

Boy's 600m - The winner, Mathieu Sturkenboom, (Quebec) is not pretty, but effective and tenacious. Best 600m time, thus far. Fifth year senior (born Jan '94). Is he on VU's radar? [48.7, 1:50.4, 3:58.8, 6'3", 155lbs] Think taller runners develop later.

Girl's 1000m - Is VU pursuing Sabrina Southerland? They should.

Have to believe both Marcus and Gina were at the meet. So they saw all of the young talent. Are the pursuing any of it?

FWIW, that bested Chris FitzSimons' indoor PR by more than two seconds.

Disagree about the 400m leg of the DMR. Villanova has All-American quality runners on all three other legs of the DMR for both men and women. I'd rather not get the baton in the lead unless that lead was sizable.

Have Lampron and Reber competed at all this year? And do you think that they
will? I must put in a plug for a talented runner from the high school where I taught
for 36 years. His name is Matt Murray, and he took fifth in the 600 yard run; it was in
finals, and he ran 1:20. As a sophomore last year he ran the 800 in 1:53 and change,
Alas, I hear he isn't a good student.

Interesting tidbit. Sheila Reid is still around the program and training in Villanova area. However, she is now being coached by Marcus and not Gina P. I guess she just wanted to change things up a bit.
Gina and Marcus have a bit different philosophies on training.

Lampron is redshirting. He's competed, but unattached. Reber competed once, but he didn't run well and might be hurt.

Marcus and Gina also have different personality which can make a difference as well.

Marcus has generally taken the post-grad girls, at least initially. Frances Koons, Carmen Douma-Hussar, Marina Muncan, etc.
