The 2015 Mets were a nice story....and clearly they're in good shape going forward with the pitching they have. Don't have to pay any of those guys for a while. But their lineup needs a complete overhaul.

Cespedes - Don't resign. He's a dog.
Murphy - Don't resign. Incredible week. But he's an overachieving, lightweight homophobe.
Duda - Trade him immediatley. Dead weight at his point.
Wright - Nice kid, but he's done. Trade go to somebody like Texas or Baltimore for 30 cents on the dollar. Eat his horrible contract.

Agree completely. Rotation is set. But lineup needs an overhaul. Trade Wheeler for a legit bat. Hopefully they pull off that Harvey for Harper deal that seems so obvious too.

Yes. I've been watching Mets baseball since 1982 and I love it. I count the days....blah blah blah.

They're a-holes. Get me Scott Brocious or Chico Martinez. They were winners/gamers.

In addition to the lineup and the defense, don't forget the bullpen outside the closer. Great starting pitching, a closer and a lot of holes to fill. Still, really great season for them.

I thought Tyler Clippard was supposed to be awesome. Someone tell Lowry99.

Sandy Alderson has done a great job and won't be dumb enough to overspend on Murphy or Cespedes. However, they'll need to find another bat or two. Will be an interesting off season for the Mets. They are ahead of schedule and I wonder if that changes how they approach FA compared to previous few seasons.

What good bat FAs are out there? At least they're back in a position where big players would probably want to play there.

Can't sign Murph and Cespedes. I'm guessing he chooses one. The homers were irregular but Murph was a pretty good hitter for average. You need the Cespedes power but he seems like the kind of player who may mail it in once he gets the big contract.

Best part of that clip is the ending where Gandolfini cracks a little smile. Classic.

I don't think you can rely on Familia to have another outstanding season. He seems like the prototypical flash in the pan type of player. What was he coming in this season, a mid inning guy?

He was a rookie last season and was a good 7th/8th inning guy. I'm happy to have him as our closer. Not his fault the defense sucked this week.

2014: 77.1 IP / 5 SV / 1.177 WHIP / 8.5 SO/9
2015: 78 IP / 43 SV / 1.000 WHIP / 9.9 SO/9

2016 mets: outfield........conforto, legaras and granderson
infield.......wright, tejada-flores, flores-herrera, duda
catcher......dAraund
starters.......harvey, degrom, sydergaard, matz and neise until wheeler returns
pen........familia
Will need to sign a few set up guys......probably reed and clippard
They will struggle again with hitting......not confident they will be able to reach the WS again with this lineup.........really thought this yr was a gift and they needed to somehow win it all........
Gotta hand it to KC.......never saw so much battling at the plate,,,,no easy outs...
Forgot to add.......thought terry collins did a horrible job..with managing his pitching staff......example last night....1. .letting harvey tell him he wasn't coming out of the game in the 9th when you have one of the best closers ready to do his job.....harvey was over 100 pitches and did his job
2. Letting clippard in when he walked one with one out then going to familia with two on...game 4

yea but that closer had blown 2 saves (ok 1 was his fault but still) and Harvey was dominant up to that point. Not a bad move bringing Harvey back out for the 9th but thought he might take him out after 1st guy reached. Nothing wrong with keeping Harvey out there. he needed to strap it on and get through the 9th to get it to game 6th. he didn't get it done. Blame Harvey more than Collins.

No I think sending harvey out there with over 100 pitches thrown was enough, He had the best closer in the game this past yr, needing to get three outs with nobody on base and a two run lead. Familia blew game one.......Collins had reed and clippard to pitch both the 7th and 8th......he lifted clippard early the game before, and went to familia again in a tough situation......I say, you got those guys for the 7 and 8 inning job. Now you are showing no confidence in clippard to get out of the 8th on his own.....If he was that shakey with clippard, then he should have switched reed and clippard role and made reed the 8th inning guy.......collins put too much pressure on familia

In fairness to Collins he didn't have a lot to work with for the 7th and 8th innings. Clippard and Reed both OK at best. Thought Reed was throwing better in the playoffs until last night (but he pitched in all 5 games), and thought Clippard just didn't have great stuff for over a month. Saying Familia blew anything more than game 1 is ridiculous, and even game 1 was one bad pitch rather than not having good stuff. Game 4 was a ridiculous save situation and he did get the ground ball, Murph just F-ed it up. Game 5 was another ridiculous situation, then he didn't surrender a hit, got the ground ball, and Wright and Duda flubbed it. Yes Wright as well -- he has no arm left, he couldn't give a full look to third as he didn't have time, then he slung it over to first. Would have been better off with letting Flores field it, give a good look back to 3rd (maybe Wright getting over there) and gun it over. Anyway, it was OK to let Harvey try the 9th but the walk should have definitely been it for him.

Obviously getting to WS was well beyond preseason expectations but at the same time you feel like they needed to steal it this year. They definitely need a presence in the lineup similar to Cespedes August and beginning September. Unfortunately Cespedes might be the only viable option there. Murph is very replaceable with the current talent (Herrera or Flores). One middle lineup hitter and 7th/8th inning guys is what is needed to get back and finish the job.

Best closer in the game this year? He wasn't even the best closer in this series.

Clippard was acquired at trade deadline to be the 8th inning man. Reed was also acquired late to be the 7th inning man. The mets wanted to set themselves up similar to KC so that once the starters got past the 6th inning, they could turn the lights out. It was set up to win a world series. If you are going to lose confidence in them at the final stages( the world series), what is that saying to them??
Also, I have watched as many mets games as anyone here.....I was very surprised to see harvey come out in the 9th.....I was happy he got thru the 8th with his pitch count over 100. Familia has been called upon all yr for the 9th inning. He is the horse that got you there. If he cannot be called upon to get 3 outs with a two run lead and nobody on, then I don't know why you bring him in at all.

I agree that you need to let Murphy and Cespedes walk. I think you make the qualifying offer because of the draft pick. Even if he comes back to you at $15 million for next year, it's worth the gamble.

That being said, no one is giving you value on Zach Wheeler coming off of that surgery right now. Best value you could get is on Syndergaard.

I still think Harvey gets traded. They won't be able to pay him and the other 4 guys. Pay deGrom, Syndergaard, Matz and Wheeler. Let someone else pay Harvey. They need help up the middle and I agree that Duda could be upgraded. You are not moving David Wright's contract right now, nor would you. I do think Conforto starts the year in left because of his salary. Not sure about Legares.

But if you could trade Harvey and turn it into a starting 2B, SS and CF, you do it.

I thought Tyler Clippard was supposed to be awesome. Someone tell Lowry99.

Just like a Nats fan to criticize the postseason performance of a guy who was subtracted from their bullpen pre-season, better than any reliever on the Nats during a RS when the Nats bullpen played a large role in their not participating in the postseason. And the same reliever ending up on the team that also needed bullpen help and blew by the Nats and went to the WS.

Clippard did not have his best stuff in the postseason, but I still think he could be part of the answer in the bullpen for the Mets though, he's been fairly consistent year to year at the right price. But if it's too much and you do think Father Time is catching up, you look elsewhere.

As for Cespedes and Murphy, I'm sure the Mets front office will be smarter than Rube was when he lavished the ruinous extension on Howard after a WS in which the Yanks' staff laid his flaws bare for all to see, after Howard had shredded the Dodgers in the prior series. Murph and Cespedes both cost themselves tens of millions in that WS. Would still probably take the "at the right price" approach with both -- if the WS disaster brought the price down sufficiently, could see bringing either or both back.

Dirk, yes I agree Collins made a mistake listening to Harvey. Familia was great in the post season. One bad pitch, to Gordon in Game 1. Everything else was lights out in NLDS, NLCS and even the 2nd two "blown" saves. They wanted to be set up like the Royals in the 7th and 8th, but they didn't have the ponies in the end. Clippard and Reed were nice down the stretch but they weren't what the Royals had. Royals are set up like the successful Yankee teams -- extremely pesky lineup throughout, even if they don't have a dominant 45 HR type guy, enough to cause stress on starting pitching and to capitalize whenever the other team cracks. That and lockdown post 7th bullpen.

His role was juggled in the 14 playoffs as well. He simply wasn't great. However that fact never fit your narrative

"This hurt," Wright said. "We were pretty close to winning the World Series."

Okay...

Mets will miss Murphy. Certainly, he had an interesting post season but he was a big part of the team. Obviously, they rely on their great pitching but a deep run next year will be tough. I hope Sandy gets better and can return to make some moves. They were fortunate that Cuddeyer chose to retire.
