Per John Rooke: Officials calling “soft” fouls on players are one thing, but calling them on the game’s best players? That needs to stop. And Big East supervisor of officials John Cahill told me as much this past week. The current crop of referees does need to have better awareness of why people come to games — and that would be to see the “stars” play. Not to see the refs blow the whistle.
