Comedians Performing in Football Stadiums

I guess in the CoP a comedian like Hart would sell out a stadium.

In New York alone, Hart quickly sold out two shows at Madison Square Garden, along with Barclays Center in Brooklyn and the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. -- a trio of metro-area plays that only the most confident pop or rock stars would even attempt (and he's already booked a fourth area venue in Wantagh, N.Y. for August 28).

Dumb comment from Billboard. Many rock and pop stars could do that.

My buddy Colin Kane was in a movie with Kevin Hart, check out his stuff online. Really funny guy.

A show in an arena is way different than a show in a stadium. Generally speaking stadium shows suck.

Arena comedy shows are typically pretty bad. The only thing that's worse is outdoors. I've heard on several podcasts that comedians like cold, dark rooms with low ceilings to get the best laughs. You need the audience to be alert (cold room), feel comfortable and secure (low ceiling), and have as few distractions as possible (dark). That's why most comedy clubs are built like that. Big open rooms don't work and outside is the worst. I went to the Opie & Anthony Traveling Virus tour in Camden like 6 years ago and it was a shitshow. The crowd wasn't listening at all (granted it was O&A fans from CoP which is like distilled stupidity). All I remember from it is that Bill Burr shit on Philly for 10 minutes and got a standing ovation at the end.

I've heard that arena shows have gotten better as they've improved sound and stage video technology. The reports from the Aziz Ansari shows in the spring were very good. Basically, they make the entire stage backdrop one giant screen and show the comic 20 feet tall. My concern with a stadium would be sound. There would be a delay and echo that you can't just overpower like at a rock show.

Agreed.

Although i did just see ACDC at Metlife stadium last night and it ruled.
Would have been better in a placekke Hammerstein though.

Dane Cook and Russell Peters are the only comedians that I recall doing actual full blown arena tours recently, not just one off events or a handful of them. Aziz did a few in MSG recently, as have couple others.
