I've decided I want to get DirecTV really just in order to get NFL Sunday Ticket. I know it's more expensive than they let on, and the 2nd year which I'll be locked into they jack up the prices. But I want to watch an out-of-town team that is rarely on TV, and going to bars isn't as practical as it used to be. Anyway, getting past all that, what I'm trying to figure out is the best way to still get internet and landline phone service along with it.

I have Verizon bundle now and want to ditch it.

I was thinking of going with MagicJack for phone since it's so damn cheap. There is also a version of it called MagicJackGo which is somehow different but I'm not sure how.

For internet, where I live AT&T is not available, so I was leaning towards Xfinity's $29.99/month deal for just internet (25Mbps). Additionally, instead of leasing a router from them for $10/month I wanted to buy one, but I wanted to make sure it was compatible with MagicJack, Xfinity, reliable, and good enough to stream Netflix. I've been reading user reviews but they are so inconsistent I don't know what to believe.

If anyone has DirecTV now and has a similar setup and can provide recommendations as far as exactly what to buy, or good suggestions, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I've had Direct TV for 4 years. Just called up, got Sunday ticket for free and saved $140 per month on my bill. Just call them up and tell them what you will pay and what you expect.

I had DirecTV, my local cable company for Internet and Ooma for phone. It gives you a lot more flexibility. Cable internet offers faster speeds. I had 100mps. Ooma is usually reviewed as the best VOIP service. It does cost $100 for the modem but from then on you only pay monthly taxes & fees. Calls are crystal clear and it has a built in answering machine and will send messages to your email account as MP3. The best modem right now is Arris/Motorola SBG6782. It broadcasts in a/g/n/AC and has both 2.4 and 5.0 Ghz broadcast capabilities. I hope that helps you.

I want to hear theories on this guy?

How tech savvy are you? It's not too hard to get the nfl gamepass product they sell for way less than Sunday ticket and use a computer or Apple TV/iPad etc to watch any game you want. You could keep Verizon.

Need to download the app from a non US iTunes account then set up a geo blocker like adfree time which is easy. Cord cutters reddit has a great overview of options and instructions.

One thing I forgot to mention about Ooma is that you get 2 telephone numbers so you can use one for FAX or use it as a private number. You can also port your number. It also has Bluetooth 3.0 so you can continue a phone call on your mobile phone when you come home as it will automatically switch the call to your WiFi network once you're in range to save your mobile minutes. It works best with DECT 6.0 wireless phones. It has call forwarding, will import your contacts from your mobile, conference calling, enhanced 911 service, call blocking, and several other features. It uses HD audio.

Sunday ticket is free for the first year. I am also getting $200 coupon. I was going to ask for the 2nd year of Sunday Ticket free too to close the deal.

Red zone is not enough, I want to watch one team entire game.

No one has Comcast internet with own modem? Looking for recommendation on which kind.
Tjc, the modem you listed is $180, that seems like more than I should need to spend. But thanks for response. I will look into Ooma.

And I am not tech savvy. I tried steaming games illegally a few years ago and a virus destroyed my computer and the broadcasts were spotty.

The modem is pricey but it has all the most advanced features available. It provides MOCA networking through the coaxial lines in your house. If you add DTV minis in other rooms in your house, MOCA provides 1GB speed to the minis so the picture is fantastic. My cable setup in my house now is on a MOCA network and the picture on my bedroom TV is as good as my living room. There's no latency at all. When I had DTV, the minis were WiFi and the picture quality was questionable.

Anyone ditch cable entirely? Considering it since everything I watch has an app for Apple TV or chromecast anyways but worried about streaming quality

The new Apple TV has their new A9 chip which should dramatically increase picture quality and it's game compatible. I have my ATV wired to an ethernet port on my router and I get 1080p quality.

For a senile old man he apparently has every piece of new technology known to man. I'll say it again. Fake handle.
Anyone who has RE&BO as their avatar is worse than senile. He's downright stupid!
