Right now, VU looks like this: Fitzsimons (1200), Apwah (800), Ellison (400), McEntee (1600). Can it compete with Dublin City University (DCU)? Or even Virginia with Andrews, etc? Ironically by moving to Armory, it actually helps VU, because other than Apwah, the boys are fairly tall and the Armory track is bigger than Garden’s ? I believe 8 laps to the mile vs 11+ to the mile.

No Apwah this season.

My guess for DMR (1200-400-800-1600) is Tetreault -- Bowers (although still coming back from injury, so perhaps Sam Ellison) -- FitzSimons -- McEntee.

Didn't know that Bowers had been injured. What was the nature of the injury? Maybe that explains his so-so performance, last week?

Fitzimons didn't look so good, this week. Neither did Tetreault. Only Ellison and McEntee seem to be ready. Doesn't look promising ...

I was happy to see that FitzSimons' time was due to a spill -- he had a very unlucky first year at Villanova and I was afraid he re-injured himself. I cannot wait to see this guy healthy and confident -- 1:45 / 3:42 is in the offing for him, or I'll eat my hat.

On Bowers, I don't know the specifics of the injury, other than being told that he's regaining fitness from an unspecified previous injury. It might be that someone like Ellison or Hines runs the 400 leg early in the indoor season, with Bowers taking over later in the season (say, by the Penn Relays).

Tetreault led off last year in the 1200 leg and ended the season strong, so I am assuming that Marcus will have him in the 1200 mix this year. McEntee is a very mature runner (despite his class standing), so my guess is that Marcus trusts him to anchor. Otherwise he could put McEntee in the 1200 and make Tetreault anchor. From what I understand, Marcus was going to use McEntee last indoor season at the NCAA DMR (in the 1200 leg, IIRC), despite McEntee being in his first semester, but when Gibney seemed strong in the 1500 final, Marcus decided to put Gibney in the anchor and seat Tetreault in the 1200, effectively bumping McEntee off the DMR. The point being, I guess, is that Marcus had enough faith in McEntee in 2011 as a first-semester freshman to have him in the DMR at Indoor Nationals. McEntee has done nothing since then but show ever increasing signs of big-time talent. Hence, I think Marcus will not hesitate to stick him in the 1600 anchor.

I would love to see Fitzsimons get into a race with one of the really fast Penn State half milers this weekend. I know he and Loxsom are both from CT, I'd love to see him get into a race with Loxsom and run a fast time.

I found video of the DMR they ran a couple weeks ago, and I timed Fitzsimons running 1:56.49 on his relay leg, but he ran the first 400 in around 1:02, so he ran a sub-55 second half. That ain't too bad.

Foye, you are right about the makeup of the Nova team. See link below. However, the competition apparently is not as keen. No Virginia. And the Dublin team is without Darren McBrearty, who would have been very dangerous on the 1200 leg - maybe giving DCU the lead.

Millrose Entries

Villanova 9:38.02 Dublin City 9:39.68
Nova first leg didn't look so good
Couldn't see the 800 third leg as they chose to introduce the women high jumpers instead of showing the race.
They introduced the men high jumpers during the mile, but got to see most of the race. McEntee(the announcer called him McKenzie)sat behind Coughlan and ran away from him the last 200.

Have the same complaints on the viewing of the DMR. Tretreault did not look good. Fitzsimons was so-so. Guess he is still coming back. Ellison held his own against Gregan (who has run 45.96), but it was McEntee's anchor that won it. Team needs a lot of work.

According to VU website, Dublin team visited the campus and Marcus felt that the two teams developed a great deal of "camaraderie." Hope that means there is a strong likelihood that Mark English will be coming to VU in the Fall. He looked good on his 800 leg.

Tetreault admitted after the race that he ran poorly. He split 2:59 on his leg, whereas he has run 2:56 in the past. Ellison went 47.0 for his leg, and FitzSimons said that he ran so-so, splitting 1:51.2. McEntee split 3:59.8 -- about 2.5 seconds faster than John Coghlan, who got the baton in first, about 10-12 meters ahead of McEntee in 3rd.
