Do we have any interest in Regan Rome, out of Dallas, Pa. She's small, but has the heart of a lion, and a pedigree to boot. Her mother ran for Penn State, father wrestled Div 1 at Wilkes. I,m not sure what her ceiling is, but she's a junior who's time are steadily improving. I think she deserves a look.

Novahoop,

Recently she finished 4th in the FootLocker NE and 3rd in the the PIAA
Championships. At this time she appears to have more range for distance
then speed for 800 and 1600. Since I almost go to the Penn Relays, I will
look for her. Pa has a number of good junior girl runners.

Whitecat, Regan was sick with a stomach flu at the PIAA, actually took a knee for ten seconds. She had previously beaten the winner by more than a minute.

I'm pretty sure they'd have interest in a runner of her pedigree. If she wants to go to VU, she should contact Gina Procaccio.

One last post, in the local fish wrapper, Regan says that what she's most looking forward to at the Foot Locker race is the competition and meeting Jen Rhines. I hope that this leads to something good. LSU has already offered.

hoop,

I do not doubt that with her times and wins Coach has already has heard of her.
But LSU is a strange spot for her since they are a school known best for runners of
shorter distances.

I've been here at LSU for 21 years and have watched the program pretty closely. I'd be shocked if Dennis Shaver has offered Rome a scholarship. This place pays almost no attention to any distance beyond 800 meters -- it's had only one sub 4:00 miler in school history, IIRC (Passmore Furusa's 3:58.77 in 1995) and rarely if ever allocates money to distance runners. So why would LSU offer a distance runner from Pennsylvania? Does not compute. I'll ask around.

I am here to eat crow (see my post directly above).

I spoke with someone at LSU with intimate knowledge of this issue, and was told that LSU is, in fact, recruiting Regan Rome. The person involved could not -- as per NCAA rules -- give exact details about an offer, but it was clear that one had been extended.

I still find this very odd, given (a) LSU's traditional emphasis on sprints, hurdles, and jumps, to the neglect of distances and (b) the geography of the story. Does anyone know if Rome has any previous connection with LSU?

No connection, talk in the running fraternity here has been Ivy with some friends lobbying for Nova.
