I am really looking forward to checking this out. This past week I have been reading a lot of Scientology and I have no other conclusion except these people are batshit crazy. Has anyone read the book it was based on? It was written by Lawrence Wright who wrote a great book about al Qaeda. I am thinking of checking it out if the movie is interesting. I am currently reading his 2011 article about Scientology which was a precursor to his book.

Saw the film at Sundance - prepare to be really mad that this sham has been allowed to ruin so many lives all while paying no taxes. I liked it, so I watched it.

Interesting tidbit about the actress who just finished up a role in Homeland. Who was told she was tom cruise's girlfriend, taken on shopping sprees and high end spa stuff. Then just as suddenly, gets the boot because she actually thinks with her own brain.

I had buddies who were scientologist when I was growing up. The parents were divorced and they were raised mostly by the mother and stepdad but they couldn't have been more normal. Didn't push it on you, and barely even spoke about it. Apparently, the stepdad left the church and they don't speak with him now though, so that aspect of it is certainly true.

Honestly, couldn't have been more normal, down-to-Earth people. Whole thing just comes off as very bizarre.
