Flu Shots

My wife is having a baby in a few months. Our physician strongly encourages us to both get flu shots in connection with this looming family event. I'm going to side with the "science folks" on this one and put the needle in my arm.

(actually getting the flu shot at work today)

I have gotten one every year since I graduated Nova through my job. Why not? It's free and they come into the office to administer the shots. I have never had a reaction and been sick after the shot and as well as I can remember I haven't had the flu in years.

I got one for the first time this year because, like RSTRICK, I was advised to get one due to my wife's pregnancy.

I generally think they are only useful for people who are very old or immunosuppressed. I'm not an anti-vaxxer by any means, but it certainly seems like overkill to me.

As someone who thinks some of the anti-vaccine people are nuts, I wouldn't say nardi's opinion falls under a cleanwave conspiracy. Flu vaccine is a tough one and using last year as an example they swung and missed. IMO, unless you are at a great risk of getting the flu yearly (healthcare provider), someone on the older side, or one those people who just seems to get it every year you probably don't need to get it.

I won't get one but i'm in the RSTRICK boat, lets listen the science guys on this. If they advise it due to a specific reason, you probably should get it. I mean how else are they going to keep the population compliant since we're not drinking as much fluoride rich tap water

I get it through work. My wife gets it because she is a 1st Grade Teacher. We have a kid. Lots of reasons to get it. I don't believe in the conspiracies - I DO believe it is a cr*pshoot.

If they didn't come into my office to do it, I wouldn't seek it out.

The flu sucks. I got the vaccine last week at my annual physical because having a 10% chance of getting the flu with the vaccine is better than a 50% chance without (representative %s).

My wife got the flu shot yesterday despite her mistaken belief you can sometimes get the flu from the shot. This morning she told me she felt ill and had the chills. I told her it was psychosomatic. She didn't like that answer.

What is ADP like money? I just need to know how bad I should feel about myself.

I've never had the flu, get a cold once a year (usually in the beginning of the winter). Hate when people go around complaining about it. Though I can't relate to any symptoms, I see no reason why people can't come in and do a desk job because of anything short of getting shot/stabbed. No intention of ever taking a sick day, just embarrassing.

Only got them due to wife mandate bc of kids. Never had one before. I've gotten really sick each of the last two winters. Two week flu-like crap. I don't see the need unless you are 75+ or have kids under 5.

This.

I got the shot. And got the flu. It's only 30-60% effective, depending on what strain they guess when they're producing the shots months before flu season.

Oh, no, I get the deal. Just questioning the logic of not getting it after two straight years of having a bad flu. Seems like even a 30% reduction in the chance of going through that again is worthwhile.

Status update:

Was vaccinated yesterday for influenza. Feel like sh!t today. (probably unrelated)
