For the first time in what seems like forever, Villanova isn't represented on the preseason All-Conference First Team selections. Instead, Collin Gillespie and Jermaine Samuels represent the Cats on the Second Team.
The First Team consists of Butler's Kamar Baldwin, Creighton's Ty-Shon Alexander, Marquette's Markus Howard, Providence's Alpha Diallo, and Xavier's Naji Marshall. Seton Hall's Myles Powell was selected preseason Player of the Year. In fairness, it's hard to argue with those selections and the young Wildcats have more to prove before being considered on the level of those players.
Joining Gillespie and Samuels on the Second Team are DePaul's Paul Reed, Georgetown's James Akinjo, and a pair of St. John's' players in L.J. Figueroa and Mustapha Heron.
It should be fun to see how everything shakes out, but even if these predictions prove true it shouldn't be long before Nova is once again represented on the First Team.
