He played for the Wings 1946-1971. Took 2 years off, went to the WHA for 6 years then came back to the NHL with the Whalers in 79-80. He played 80 games his final season. That's insane.

Was lucky enough to see him play live against the Flyers in 79-80 season. I believe that made him 48 at at the time. Howe played in 80 games that year. He had 15 goals and the Whalers made the playoffs. Also played that year with Mark. Fortunately Flyers won that game and didn't lose in 35 straight that year. Still one of the longest streaks in pro sports.
