Happy Palm Sunday Newsgroup

Not even close. Easter Vigil (this Saturday night) is much longer. So the good news is that you didn't miss the opportunity to attend.

I had an illiterate priest. Had everyone else do the readings and just memorized his parts. Great preacher though. Ran his own church.

Can't recall ever going to church the day BEFORE Easter as a kid.

What's that all about? Does one attend on Sunday as well?

Strick, if you go to Easter vigil, you do not have to go Sunday. It's a different format than a typical Mass. Lots and lots of readings. Some churches start the Mass in darkness with a candlelight procession. I think the last one I went to lasted about 2-1/2 hours.

The one at my church doesn't even start until 8:30PM.

I go on Sat night most of the time. It's @ 5:00PM and it's over by 5:45PM. We have a great priest who gives really good sermons. I like going!

also tends to be where churches initiate the converts who went through RCIA further adding to the length of the mass.

Went once to the vigil as a kid. BRUTAL. 3 hours.

palm sunday is pretty long but the sat night easter mass is 3 hrs. the church welcomes new members to the faith with many of the sacraments that night , so basically you have a mass, a number of baptisms, first holy communions, reconciliations and confirmations in one mass.

Then the cops show up at the three hour mark and arrest the priest for unlawful imprisonment and cruel and unusual punishment.

the only people that attend are the family members of those becoming catholic. i had to go when i was 12 or so when a distant uncle decided to become catholic. it was possibly the longest day of my life. had to go to reading pa for the dinner and then mass. so basically an hr drive, 2 hr dinner, 3 hr mass and hr drive home. but didnt have to go to mass on Sunday!

I don't know what is worse, having to go to church or Reading, PA.

reading is pretty bad. my aunt lives in the farm area but the mailing address is still reading. nice area if you like trees and no roads or houses for miles and miles.

Even though Al' Diamond Cabaret is no longer BYOB, I'll still choose Reading. At least I saw Alice in Chains there last July.

Just yesterday a buddy and I had a conversation about Al's. Wasn't sure if it was still open. gr8est strip club ever?

Yes still open; however, don't waste your time if ever in the area.

Haven't been there since the 90's. But after the Alice in Chains concert last July, we decided to stop by for old times sake. Drove around lost looking for a place to buy some beer. Finally scored a couple six-packs and found Al's. Got to the door and the bouncer explained it was no longer BYOB.

Entertainment was about 8 notches below what it used to be - bad. Plus they bug shit out of you for tips. In the old days they left you alone.

Still better than going to church though.
