maybe when you have been stuck in a small cell for years, their current definition of claustrophobic is much different? They might have an easier time finding who helped them escape compared to the escapee's.

im always curios of that too. what do you do once you escape. unless you have someone picking you up or a safe house or something it has to be almost impossible.

It's not an accident that they put these prisons hours from civilization. In general, escapees wander around the woods until caught. Some make it far enough to get caught carjacking someone.
