I had a problem with my AC unit in the first floor as it wasn't functioning. We were heading out of town so I let it go until we returned. Had someone scheduled to come out today. They come out, assess the problem and quote me a price that is $400 more than the part cost after they told me it's a simple fix and could be done in minutes. So I ask for the part, look it up online and find out the true costs, ranging from $20-35 dollars. The guy is now calling his boss because I offered to pay them $200 to fix it or hit the bricks. Like Sam Hinkie, let's see how this plays out. Any bets on what they come back with?

There are principalities involved. I hate when these folks think they can rip you off because you live in a nice house/neighborhood. They must not know about these series of tubes that provide information on how much services cost. Back on point: they told me they'd give me 20% off their initial ridiculous quote. I told them to hit the bricks. Naturally, I'll have to spend another few hours tracking down someone to do this so it will probably cost me more in time than money saved. However, there are principalities and it gives me more times to play with my INET friends as I call and try to get a straight quote from an HVAC company.

Update, done, guy coming and I saved $175.

This sounds like a good result on the surface, but I'm afraid we'll have to wait several years to see how this guy's repair works holds up until we can evaluate your move here.

Nice work by them to hold the line. They thought you would fold in the face of some upcoming scorching temps forecasted. It was a good gamble even though it didn't pay off.

I recently had some fun episodes of getting f*cked in similar situations-
- home seller faking getting work done that was required under agreement of sale. even getting fake receipts.

- hardwood flooring guy hired by Mrs. Dimer half assing some molding, breaking a cabinet and telling her it "wasn't his problem". I told him to stop by to discuss if he wanted the final payment. He looked deeply into my eyes, saw a powerbomb coming and agreed to make it right.

- refrigerator delivery men from best buy "discovering" that my new refrigerator was damaged and leaking coolant just as they were about to take it off the truck. Incredible timing, guys!

- moving company calling (on the morning of our move) trying to pull some b*ullshit about how they couldn't get a large truck and should charge me more to bring more trucks and more guys. I ended up moving some bookshelves and entertainment center myself. My rage promoted herculean strength.

- home inspector of our buyers f*cking up our hot water heater the night that were were having family visit. Then he and the buyers both denied ever touching it despite the part that was fiddled with being under a panel that is screwed on. They weren't supposed to be in the basement - they were on a follow up to do a more detailed A/C inspection. I refused to sit down at the settlement table till they wrote me a check for that repair visit.

- cop giving me a ticket for an expired inspection. That should always be a warning and requirement to get it done within a week. $210. He spotted it and pulled me over. Wasn't during a stop for a moving violation. A-hole.

All this in the week after having a new baby. Motherf*ckers.
I have a plumber coming tomorrow to fix some sh*tty work done by previous owners. If they try to take liberties, pray for them.

Congrats on the baby. Hope you, Mrs. Dimer, and baby Dimer are well. Sometimes, you have to have to draw a line in the sand and refuse to take people's $hit. It's the principle that pisses me off.

Maybe it's always been this way, but there is so much deception and dishonesty that you have to wade through when dealing with any of these companies. I've become so cynical, and unfortunately a bit of an a-hole. Otherwise they see someone who they can take advantage of. Stories like these (including adp's) are all too common, although that really is a ton of sh*t for one week.

Just really proud that you can continue to post on a message board. b7O would be proud.

How about just show up on time and do the f*cking work well, and being a regular goddamn person? What ever happened to that. Everyone is a goddamn huckster. Cutting corners and not admitting it, trying to fix sh*t that isn't broken, not responding in a timely manner.

Additional incidents:
- Getting f*cked on the car inspection that followed the aforementioned ticket. "Oh, you need this bullsh*t repaid or we can't pass you." Inspections are a scam specifically to do unneeded work.

- Mattress and cable/internet pricing - all competitors offer basically the same product Comcast/Verizon and mattress store A/mattress store B. It seems like there's an agreement in place to create inconsequentially different products so that you can't for certain compare prices. With cable, they all offer the same thing, but different fees, different monthly structures and contracts. Mattresses stores have the same brand, same tiers of matress (economy, regular, premium, luxury) but with different names. At store A, it's the Serta Excelsior, at store B, it has a slightly pattern on it and is called the Serta Winfield. Cable service fees - why do I have to pay a connection fee. There is no cost to starting my service. Why do I have to pay for more TV's? You don't send a stronger signal because of it. And don't tell me your $4 cable boxes are the reason.

Just looked at my Direct-TV bill (I'm on autopay) and this past month was $272. That's crazy considering I don't even use them for phone/INET. This is just for my cable and includes MLB/Sunday Ticket. This has inspired me to call them next. Been meaning to get this done for 4 months now. Absolutely ridiculous. And if they want to play hard ball and don't think I'll switch right before NFL season they have another thing coming. (Note, it's Fuking hot on my first floor).

I'm on my third Direct TV transfer right now. Edit, they have agreed to give me a $200 Visa giftcard, free NFL ticket and cut my bill another $100 per month on top of that. Saved over a G, boom! It's a good day for saving.

Cable company pricing strategy: eventually they'll give up and stop calling us for a better price.
That as well as we lock them into a 2 year contract and then raise their rates again. It will take them a while to catch on and we'll do this dance again 30 months from now. Regardless, chalk this up as a victory for the .....wait for it....little guy.

"Principalities"? You are not referencing Monaco or Andorra. I believe you mean "principles".

No, you obviously are not familiar with "Big Worm". There is principalities in this.

Man of the people a/k/a adp! Inspiring me to call my cable company later in the week.

ADP did you call direct tv and tell them you were canceling the service?

I just got lucky with bright house. I forgot to pay it and they shut the service off when i called them they reinstated it and I am paying $30 less a month. Pays to pay late sometimes

I just told them I had been a food customer 4 years running and tj ey needed to cut my bill by 100 per month. They reviewed my account, upgraded all my boxes, added another HD box in my basement and cut my bull from 270 to 139, threw in the 200 gift card and all the sports packages. I was very nice and simply said no one pays this much for cable anymore. They agreed I bc omitted to a two year deal and got mlb and Sunday ticket throw in both years (which was part of the monthey rate drop, saved 75 per right there). Ac guy arrived as he said at 7, took 10 minutes to do the fix and I'll make my 8:20 tee time.

My issue is that I'm in a building where I can't get dish or direct tv or fios. So i would have to cobble a bunch of Internet packages which is not what I really feel like doing.

When I right out of college I got pulled over in Devon for having an expired registration. He was definitely a cool cat about it. It was a $200 ticket, but he just told me that if I bring in a receipt showing I got the registration within a week of the ticket, the fine would be gone. I was young and dumb and lazy and he still cut me a brake. Cap tip.

In court waiting room now. Cop is 18 minutes late now. The guy next to me is wearing flip flops and just ripped a huge fart. He's a model CoPer.

One of the lawyers is starting to lose his mind over the delay. He's here for an inspection ticket like me. But he thinks he is the crown of creation and deserves to be heard before everyone else. Jesus what an ahole.

For that kind of loot you can get two tickets to the Braves game on Labor Day and sit 13 rows up in section 111! Its a shame all Phillies fans aren't like burrs.

Philly is a joke on these expired registrations. We live in DE, my wife was up in Philly and parked on a city street. She renewed her registration online the prior week and had a receipt that showed we were valid, but DMV sticker hadn't arrived in the mail yet. Philly cop wrote her a ticket and stuck it on the windshield, we figured that it would be waived by appealing through the mail. Nope- got a letter back saying the ticket was valid and we owed them $100+. Such BS. They probably automatically deny any appeals by mail and figure people would just pay it rather than take the day off of work.

Also- can a Philly cop write a ticket for an expired, out of state registration, on a parked vehicle? Seems like they are overstepping their bounds a little on that one.

Section 111 blows. Would rather sit in the outfield or upper deck behind home.

Got nailed twice for that by PPA meter maids. Once on each car. Even though the meter was paid.

Back to HVAC repair scam artists - basically every HVAC person I have had come to my house has tried to convince me of one of the following:
1) My system is undersized for my house
2a) My system could be completely redesigned to provide better cooling
3) My unit is on the verge of explosion and needs to be replaced
4) My unit needs some massive repair to a part that should be under warranty so I only have to pay for the labor

Just fix the minor issue, you douches, and stop swinging for the fences on every visit. I'm not looking to drop $10k every time you show up. I'd rather sit in the sweltering CoP heat for a few years than pay to replace an entire unit that is younger than it's average useful life.

Not Phila Traffic Court was it? Probably the burbs.
Does the CoP even have traffic court? CoPPD doesn't give a damn about traffic violations. They're just trying to keep everyone alive. I don't even sweat it when I blow through a fresh red light in the CoP proper. I would if I were of a different background and driving a '97 Dodge Stratus with no muffler and a different color hood from the junkyard.

Yes, there is a CoP traffic court. There were traffic court judges prosecuted recently. Cops don't go to CoP traffic court, that's why I assumed you were in a suburb.

How do cops not go to traffic court? Does the judge just assume you're guilty if you:
1) got pulled over for such an egregious violation that you actually diverted a police officer from more serious CoP crimes
2) weren't connected enough to make your ticket "go away"

I went to the CoP traffic court on Spring Garden one time. I got a ticket in Manayunk for running a red light on Green Ln @ Main St. A sergeant pulled me over and had to wait for a patrolman to come write the ticket. I couldn't believe the sgt. gave enough of a shit to pull me over.

I went to court during the day so I put on a suit to look like a productive member of society. It was very entertaining. Some classic cases came up before me where people blatantly lied to the judge and he called them out on it before throwing the book at them. The way I remember it is that there is one cop there to represent PPD as a whole during the initial hearing. If you get to the point of going to trial, they
call in the cop who wrote the ticket.
