Now that medical questions have been popping up....

Anyone on here suffer from insomnia? I have no problem falling asleep but I have a big issue with waking up in the middle of the night and being wide awake for 2-3 hours. A lot of times I just get up and work out or send work emails. I partially attribute it to my anxiety medication - which is almost counter productive as my anxiety goes through the roof while laying there in bed and being tired the next day doesn't help.

For those that have the same or similar issue - what do you do? Do you get out of bed?

Odd you bring this up today. I woke up at 3 this morning and never fell back asleep.

Clearly its an anxiety issue. I find it useful to make some progress on the things that are making me anxious in the middle of the night.

List of shit, method by which i plan on completing whatever is bothering me, scheduling it. Whatever. Makes me feel like the time im wasting awake isn't completely wasted.

Today i hit the gym at 4 this morning and felt better. Like a complete freak, but better.

I'm same way. Usually for me work related. If I can perform a task or two can usually fall back a sleep. I'm told getting on an electronic device is very bad. However, it helps me if I'm productive when I wake up.

A family member had similar issues, including other messed up stuff - sleep walking, etc. Did two sleep study sessions and it helped diagnose the issue.

I've read this too. Something about blue light. I can stay up till 3AM if i'm on the computer or phone. I pass out early if reading a book or watching TV.

Def work and personal issue anxiety driven. Once I wake up and my mind drifts to one of those things then it is like I drank a cup of coffee. Usually the same thing occurs if I get some work done or send out some emails but sometimes it is has the opposite effect where I'll get sucked in and next thing I know the sun is coming up.

Fully agree about the phone/blue light. I've moved my charger and started keeping my phone on the opposite side of the room. Far enough away so I won't grab it out of instinct if I hear a buzz but still close enough that I jump up when the alarm goes off. Plus I've got a 21 year old brother that likes to call me at 1-3 am on occasion. If I wake up and it is next to me then as soon as I look at it I'm up for at least another 45 minutes.

Speaking of sleep walking - I sleep spanked this girl I'm seeing on Sunday night. Literally in the midst of a dead sleep, spooning, I spanked her right on the ass. It woke us both up and I was like "Did I just spank you?!?" We're still laughing about it. One of the weirdest things I've ever done while asleep.

I have trouble falling asleep but I don't know the reason. I have tried all kinds of sleep aids but use a low dose of Ambien now. It works pretty well. I take it about 3 times a week because I don't want to get too dependent. I have noticed that I sleep a lot better when I get enough exercise.

My brother in law's issue was sleep apnea or something like that. He seemed ADD during the day - never wanting to focus on anything for very long, always needing activity. Very high acheiver as a result. As soon as something was done... on to the next task. It was just a coping mechanism to deal with the fact that his brain was exhausted all the time because he was never getting enough deep sleep. He would probably pass out if he stopped going.

I had awful times trying to sleep. Now, I take a .25mg Xanax tablet and a swig of Zzzquill. I sleep at least 7 hours and, even if I wake up, I can fall right back to sleep. ZzzQuil is OTC, non-habit forming and inexpensive.
