My father and his squadron flew 6 missions that day in their P-47 Thunderbolts. They were strafing missions to hit trains, tanks, and convoys...anything that moved. Did their business, and hopped back across the Channel to reload and went up again, as I said, 6 times in all. He was a gentle and quiet man who died way too early at 55. He and his generation did the job they had to do. Too bad young people today in general don't have a clue what the WW II generation did for them. Thanks for the reminder, Ed.

Over 400.000 GIs killed in WWII. 80,000,000 people worldwide. Over 2,500 on Omaha Beach on D-Day. Far more than almost 14 years in Afghanistan. People today don't realize what tough times are.
