Marriott buys Starwood

Big news for business travelers. Marriott is buying Starwood. I have been loyal to Marriott and have been Marriott Rewards Gold or Platinum every year since college. Hopefully, this doesn't end up like United/Continental where the new company combined the worst parts of the legacy brands.

You think there is a Marriott in Morgantown? Reminds me of the time I was taking my now wife there for the first time and she told me when we got there she needed to run to J Crew for a sweater. I laughed from DC to Hagerstown.

my guess is you will not be negatively impacted. status and loyalty is very important in travel/lodging. they're trying to consolidate operations & G&A most likely, and will do all they can to retain all loyalty members. airlines are a little different because they are a shit show in general, are under a lot more bottom-line pressure, and dont care as much about the customer experience

they're not out to hose you, it doesnt make any business sense to do that, and these people arent stupid

What does Marriott's loyalty program offer in terms of the ability to covert points into airline miles?

Debating just moving all my SPG points out to American Airlines now.
