Big early season matchup for 2nd place in the NL East. Both teams struggling somewhat offensively, but have a common series win over the lowly 2-4 Nats.

Lineups

Granderson RF
Wright 3B
Duda 1B
Cuddyer LF
Murphy 2B
d'Arnaud C
Lagares CF
Flores SS
deGrom P

Revere LF
Herrera CF
Utley 2B
Howard 1B
Ruiz C
Sizemore RF
Asche 3B
Galvis SS
Harang P

I don't understand Asche batting 7th at all. At this point I would bat him 3rd consistently and see what he's made of.

Phils are +155 today, might be decent value with Harang on the mound. Because you know that Harvey will have about 16 K's tomorrow as Howard goes for the Platinum Sombrero.

Not likely this year. 5 Ks would require his teammates getting on base at least 12 times in one game.
Yes. If you told me before the game tomorrow that Howard would strike out five times then I'd take that. That would probably mean they probably did some damage off of Harvey from the other eight in the line-up.

Wow, amazing catch by Revere in LF.

Safe to say that so far, the LF experiment for Revere is a success.

Just saw the highlight of this on Twitter. What an idiot....Why would you waste a perfectly good beer on someone like Grady Sizemore?

Meanwhile Utley and Howard are a combined 6-42 on the season early on.

Sweet play, Chase.

Teams need help to score. A dropped come-backer and error is how the Mets score.

Another really boring game (so far). Mets score on a misplay by Harang and a sac fly after an error.

Was at the game with most of the family so there was no need to call and discuss the win. Degrom didn't have his best stuff, but still had a great outing. I can't wait to see the footage of Howard's strike out in the 8th. Holy hell.

I really hate the way the Mets lineup is right now. I would prefer:

Lagares CF
Murphy 2B
Wright 3B
Duda 1B
d'Arnaud C
Cuddyer LF
Granderson RF
Flores SS
Harvey P

Granderson is batting like .050 this year.

I think Buchanan might give a solid effort tonight, but it will be a miracle if the Phillies have more than 1 run thru seven innings.

This has been an entertaining game. The home plate ump is terrible. How the hell did he miss Duda touching the plate?

The interference call on d'arnaud was terrible -- as was the first Harvey HBP. Mets did also benefit from a bad call down the line I think.

Glad Harvey plunked Utley, just a smart baseball play with Howard on deck.

It amazes me how many people try to tell me David Buchanan is a solid pitcher. F*cking guy doesnt have a win in his last 12 starts. He is absolute trash.

Also amazes me any team pitches to Utley. Ever. He's the only major league hitter in the entire lineup.

He hasn't pitched well in either start this year after an excellent spring. His ceiling is as an average starting pitcher. He pitched to a 3.03 era over his last 15 starts last year. That's acceptable. Who cares about wins?

Well if you listen to "TMAC" and the other philly announcers, you'd think this guy is on his way to being an all-star. After like the 5th inning I stopped watching and just listened to the Mets radio team instead of watching the game (can't watch mlb.tv because of blackout restrictions).

phils crew kept saying how much better he was pitching this outing than his last one. For God's sakes, he gave up 9 hits, 5 runs in under 6 innings against a horrible hitting team. How much better can it be?

TMac is clueless. I didn't notice too much love going his way. In fact, I thought they mentioned several times how his command so far hasn't been as good as it was throughout the spring. Again, his ceiling is more tha likely average.

In case you missed the last 20 years of baseball analysis, wins aren't always a gr8 indicator of good pitching.
He's been shaky this year, but Didn't give up more than 3 runs in his last 15 starts of 2014. He's not solid, but he can fill out a rotation on a tanking team.

I thought that was the characterization of today's starter?

Yeah, but what are you doing for me lately?

And wins are important an stat. Does a guy actually go out there and put you in position to win the game? The phightins have lost 10 of his last 11 starters. Still a relatively small sample, but you don't want to trot guys out there who wins at that clip.

I would still prefer to see Asche hit at the top of the lineup. Competitive game last night, had everything really. Wheels would have loved that game so many "goofy" things going on.

Sidenote - I am enjoying Ben Davis' contributions to the broadcast. He's whitty and a lot more insightful than those other 2 and their juicy man titties.

baseball is going in the wrong direction.

a 7 min delay just to say we cant review it anyway? get rid of review. never needed it before you dont need it now.

In politics and sport, people would prefer to ruin the system than just accept sometimes there are exceptions to the rule and there is no such thing as a perfect system.

Problem with baseball replay is there are thousands of weird things that can happen on any given play -- as we saw last night.

The fair/foul ball hit down the line (called foul) only can be reviewed if it was in the air while going over the bag? Then what, the umpire can just give the batter a double? What if it's a slow runner?

Why not be able to review that catchers interference call? Was clear as day.

Can't review the HBP because Harvey stepped back on the mound -- but he can wait 5 minutes off the hill while Mets management reviews replay?

I swear I was going to lose it if they had called Duda out after he touched home plate the first time and then was tagged out because the ump missed the call on the 2nd attempt.

im ok with reviewing a home run to see if it was fair or foul or hit the wall and is a HR or not. anything else is a waste of time. human error is a part of everyday life, technology is not a good thing in the case.
