Read somewhere recently that Lipari will be in the Women's Mile. All the talk is about Alexa Efraimson (WA) - the new wunderkind in women's track - meeting-up with Mary Cain, who has switched from competing against Ajee Wilson and Anita Hinriksdottir (ICL) in the 800.

There is a College Men's 4x800. Is VU competing? And, if so, who is on that quartet?

sebastianic,

I read about Emilly on a thread on Let's Run.
That blog is tough with all of the crap that is posted
there. I loved it when one poster said that Emily's
running form was bad. It usually looks good at the
line.

Will be in attendance per usual. Hope VU runs at least one of the relays as those are the most fun to cheer for.

Last year VU had a great showing with Cain charging Sheila on the last lap.

TMJ45,

In the mid 1950s it was an easy train ride to NYC to the Garden
for the games. I might have been to five.

Villanova men are indeed entered in the Collegiate Men's 4x800. Next question is the makeup of the team. It would seem that Ellison, Williamsz and Fitzsimons would be three of the legs. Who is the fourth - Malone, McEntee, Solis, Lampron? Will this weekend's Collegiate at the Armory be a sort of trial? Solis ran the lead leg at Penn Relays in 2013.

In 2013, Penn State, with Loxom, Kidder, Watkins & West, won. Someone correct me, if I am wrong, but didn't Malone beat Watkins on more than one occasion, while in HS, as a junior? Malone ran his 1:49.9 on the same track (actually it has been resurfaced for this season) in winning the HS indoor championship against Watkins in 2012.

TFE, found your response interesting. Why such a low view of Fitzsimons as compared to Solis? Just curious.

Because Solis very nearly made it to the national meet last year and was right in the mix on the first leg of the Penn Relays. .

According to the list of entries for Millrose, VU's Men's 4x800 is: Fitzsimons, Malone, Lampron & Palmisano. Not the A team. Why? Is it because the only "name" school is Duke - i.e., no Penn St. or G'town or Columbia ...?

Millrose Entries

My guess would be that either that's wrong, or some people are going to Washington this weekend for one of the stupid meets they have out there.

They're going to Iowa State. Ellison, FitzSimons, Solis, Denault, Williamsz, McEntee, and Tiernan all on the start lists.

If Fitzsimons goes to Iowa State, who is left to run that leg on the 4x800? O'Sullivan? Brennan?

This will be my sixth. I loved it at the garden but the armory is a great place with an unreal running history to match a great event. Looking forward to seeing the team race. Hopping on the train shortly.

Impressive. Going for the last several years, you tend to see the same people over and over. A friend of my parents has been every year since 1980.

Also, Lipari never threatened to win but came out with a PR by two seconds or so from what I can tell. Mary Cain is just a wonder. Hopefully big things for her to come as her career progresses. I like that Salazar has the experience to make sure she focuses on sustained development, but would've gone to college for a few years if I was her.

Williams and Denault both go under 4 min mile at Iowans state. Williamsz 3:56 and change ranks number two on college indoor list. Now have three guys on team who have gone under 4.

'90,

For Penn, Ellison's times were also impressive this weekend.

Especially because he pretty much had to do it solo because he was inexplicably put in a slow heat.

3 guys under 4 min mile. Seems like we may have a better shot at penns in the 4x1600 then we may have in DMR.

The splits for the Men's 4x800 are posted on the Villanova website. Malone split 1:53.9. Two years ago, he won the HS indoor 800 championship in 1:49.9 as a junior. He now splits 4 seconds slower. What happened? Bad hand-off? Is he hurt? Or is this a replay of Venables, Chapman & Burroughs? Envisioned him competing for a leg on 4x800 at Penn. Don't think so now ...

As for Penn Relays: Men have chance at DMR, 4xmile and 4x800. Weakness with DMR is 400 / 800. Ellison is team's best 400 man and best 800 man. If Fitzsimons was running like he did as a HS senior, then you could live with Ellison at 400. If Ellision runs 800, there is nothing at 400.

Was no handoff issue. Didn't look like an injury either.

TMJ45, you were there. What did you see? According to the above splits, Lampron ran very well; Malone ran poorly - possibly the "weakest" leg ...

Splits

Judging by the splits of the other teams, it doesn't look like he ran all that slowly. Seems like every leg was run pretty slowly with the exception of the second leg and the anchor leg.

Maybe a slow track. No one seemed "off" really. Duke easily the strongest and had control the entire time.

I saw nothing that would lead me to believe there were any issues with any specific runner or handoff.

You could blame it on a slow track, but both girls ran PRs, so can't really blame it on that.

Just discovered this forum and was reading some of the past and recent posts. Do the few of you that post have inside information about the team (i.e. injuries, etc.) or are you making assumptions and drawing your own conclusions about the performance of various individuals?

Martinique2, I believe the posts pretty much speak for themselves. The folks posting here seem to be informed about track & field and interested in Villanova track. Some clearly are alums. Opinions are pretty obvious, but they seem to be based on sound reasoning and thus are interesting. Some do have "inside" information - and that is good.

And some of us will be at Penn Relays, end of April. Whitecat has been doing it for about half a century. Now that is serious T&F.
