Serious question on banning. If it's been proven that people can come back so quickly with a new user name, then what's the point?

What's the point is a great question - I am often very close to shutting down all the free boards but 1 and ruling it like a dictator ... because unfortunately the world does not suffer from a shortage of assholes that derive some pathetic form of pleasure from insulting people from behind a veil of anonymity.
HallEric was even deleting posts in the CHAT ROOM last night during the DePaul game.
As well I should have - people don't join the game chat to put up with the antics of childish morons.

I think ericw runs a gr8 board and is generally fair, sometimes he does sweeping bannings where a lot of people get the axe. I apologize for mine, I thought it was for something stupid (like trying to have an argument with tjc). but it was fair in the whole. Tough but fair. I would like to propose basketball talk on this board (where all the assholes are) and we can just have our own discussion without getting spammed with puff pieces or any of that nonsense.

It wasn't really a bashing, it was more of a joke on a Temple player, typically when this happens it might be that someone is an avid reader.

It's like an umpire in baseball....there will be days when eric will be on the rag and ban for no reason because he feels like it. Most days the same infractions will slide. I also have seen that 4.6 has more wiggle room than the TJC board.
It is curious though that TJC and ball never get banned which lends support to the long standing conspiracy theory that they are both alts planted by Rivals to drive traffic.

I have deleted a ton of stupid, uninformed comments ball has made about Dunphy. At some point ball needs to stop being an asshole.

eric, feel lucky that ball has spent an insane amount of time trolling other boards, which as is the case here, completely ruins them for every other less-insane person reading them.
Last time I got banned was completely warranted, and I stayed away for a while. It's not a hopeless system.
