As expected, we got a decision on the start of the college basketball season on Wednesday and the season will kick off November 25. That represents a two-week delay from the usual start of the season, but considering the circumstances and the uncertainty of the past few months, it is welcome news. The selection of Nov. 25 allows for schools to take advantage of the six-week or so period when students won't be on campus over winter break and should also allow for teams to get creative in managing some semblance of a non-conference schedule.
Official practices can begin October 14, and before that programs can have eight hours of on-court work per week instead of the usual four hours that usually precedes the start of official practices. The eight-hour allowance begins September 21.
With dates settled, we will now wait for indications of what the schedule will look like, but for now, we know a college basketball season is on the way.
