Is it too early to send her to a xc camp? I don't want to push and burn her out as right now she loves the sport... She is solid not great 6:40 for the mile and 7:30 mile pace for 5k..I have heard horror stories of young girls who run too many miles any advice is appreciated

It's a little young. But if it's a good camp that's both instructive and low-key at the same time it's probably ok. The real value may be just seeing other girls do some stress related training and not be wiped out by it. Sometime just thinking about a 3k to 5k course can seem daunting and getting some experience with it can help with the confidence.

+1. Seems a bit early to me. Let her be a kid. Especially let her participate in other sports if she shows an interest in them. Let her play soccer, or lax, or hoops - whatever. All of them involve running and in the long run they will make her a better all around athlete. I would also say that a 5th grader should never race in anything more than a mile or two mile, preferrably on a track and not road races.. No 5K road races or any of that stuff. Too much stress on a young body. Stress of too much, too early can really be damaging, especially for young girls who tend to put more internal stress on themselves than boys. Another suggestion - keep an eye on her weight. too many young girl runners have serious issues with anorexia and bilomia. Having a few extra lb's is not a big deal.

Just my 2 cents.

My daughter was a great Jr High runner. Won many races, conference etc. Burned out and hurt freshman year in high school, by soph year she was done. Too early. Wait and start around fresh/ soph in high school. You can let her run but short distance on track. No road

Just my 2 cents
