So I woke up this morning still feeling the effects of that smoke show. Yelling at the dog, arguing with the wife. My 6 year old was sad and depressed. He hasn't had to take too many of these, especially in the regular season. The day was off to a terrible start, but I told him that stops now.
I told him the season is a marathon not a sprint and there is plenty more basketball left to be played, starting with LaSalle on Sunday. So maybe we are not as good as last year or even two years ago. Maybe we don't belong in the top 20. Maybe we aren't the best team in the Big East this year. Looks like we have a bunch of flaws, (defense, rebounding, over reliance on 3s). And we all know we haven't made it out of the first weekend in forever. This is who we are right now so we have to accept it.
But this is also who we are:
Danny O - two great, aggressive moves to the hoop last night with thunderous dunks! Keep getting that confidence Danny and keep attacking that rim. You are still improving and we are better when you are on the court and aggressive.
Mikal Bridges - just scratching the surface. Loved him putting it on the floor and attacking the hoop a few times. Keep up that disruptive defense and earning more PT. The upside is to the moon Mikal, keep working!
Phil Booth - guts of a burglar. Awesome drives to the hoop when it looked like the game was getting away from us in the first half. Keep gaining that confidence and keep shooting PB.
Arch - keeping diving after those loose balls and giving everything to help. Keep taking those open 3s, we need your scoring and leadership now more than ever.
Josh - absolute gamer. No matter the opponent. Become a little more selfish Josh, you are our best option most of the time, go take it and show the country what we already know, you are an absolute stud.
KJ - several nice takes to the hoop last night, but don't hesitate if you have an open 3. Take it! We've seen you make some big 3s and I know there are more to come.
Jalen - just keep doing what you are doing. Steady point guard leadership, working on the defense. This game is not easy at the highest level. The shots are going to fall and you will start to take over games.
DR - keep getting better Darryl. Way to gut it out coming off the foot injury. You continue to give us valuable minutes. I love your aggression, its what we need off the bench!
I'm sure the coaching staff will watch the tape and makes some adjustments. Not sure what we do to solve some of the issues but part of me says screw it. Let's take 40 3s against LaSalle and make 30 of em!
