In Game 1 of the Fall Classic tonight, Matt Harvey takes the hill versus the Royals' Edinson Volquez. What the Mets are doing right now could be the beginning of a special run for that franchise. I just don't see the Royals having enough pitching to take four games against the likes of deGrom, Harvey, and Syndegaard. Sometimes, a team just has an unstoppable mojo, when all the pieces of the puzzle just happen to fit together at the exact right time. The Mets' young arms have been extraordinary, as the running storyline next to the sudden slugger Dan Murphy.
It's been an amazing build-job by veteran GM Sandy Alderson. His hands were tied by the Wilpon's unwillingness to spend major money for 4 1/2 years, but he seized upon a unique opportunity to make improvements, at the trade deadline in July. He was remarkably visionary in pushing in all his chips at the right time, nailing down multiple trades that greatly improved the team's hitting.
The Royals have big-game experience, and are going to be tough to beat, but I think it's going to be Mets in 6.
