Paleo Shmaleo

O/U until the next fad diet comes out? Maybe the 1300s peasant diet?

A prosperous English peasant in the 14th century would probably consume 2 - 3 pounds of bread, 8 ounces of meat or fish or other protein and 2 -3 pints of ale per day. The bread was usually mean of rye, oats, or barley. Meat was expensive and usually only available on special occasions. Often eggs, butter, or cheese were substituted for meat. Vegetables such as onions, leeks, cabbage, garlic, turnips, parsnips, peans and beans were staples. Fruits were available in season.

I never understood people who went with a specific diet. Just eat whatever you want in moderation and burn off more calories than you take in. It's not rocket science. I love to eat too much to restrict myself to a diet.

diet is a misnomer for a lot of these things. I consider paleo or whole30 a lifestyle change and not a diet. to me diet means lessening of something vs. a total shift away from a food group (complex carbs or sugars for example).

just my 2 cents on that.

and for the record I have seen good success with a modified paleo over the past few years where i'm not strict but cut out bread and basically crap junk food.

I can never understand spg. I think I would agree with him more if I didn't have to fight through the prose to figure out what he is saying. Starts off talking about bloodletting, then gives a list of 4 things that don't have much to do with each other, while not explaining what those lists of 4 things relate to, then ends with no point. I feel like there's a baseline level of background understanding required that I just don't have -- like I wandered into the wrong college class in the middle of the semester and just sat down. What's the point, man? What are you trying to say?

spg do you think a healthy diet of semen is good for women or men who are vegetarians as it is high in protein.

This is not a taking questions thread, but what is the usual breakfast, lunch, and dinner for spg109876ers

In all seriousness, it is healthy for women to consume it. In fact, if you are going to have a child with a woman, it is very important that she be orally exposed to your semen before childbirth. It prevents preeclampsia.

But why cut out anything? That is all I am saying.

i feel better when not consuming the product? this is for bread. crap food (processed stuff and sweets) should be cut out just because it is garbage with no nutritional value.

weekends are open season for me though, pizza and sandwiches are certainly on the table for saturday/sunday.

also on the natto front, while on the honeymoon to thailand, the breakfasts in the hotels all had natto at the buffet. it was not good.

SPG,

What are your thoughts on the role of diet in inflammatory bowel diseases such as crohn's and ulcerative colitis? I feel like the new "hip" thing is to try to fix this with food even though there's zero research to support it.

Understood. Like you said above - you are more of a lifestyle change than a diet kind of person. That I 100% get and agree with.

Changing the mindset of food for comfort and recreation to food for fuel and health is a tough transition.

Really a gr8 way to state it.

I eat shredded wheat (not frosted mini wheat, just shredded wheat) from aldi. it tastes like crap, but I feel better and have lost weight because of the change to shredded wheat. breakfast is now purely for fuel and no longer about enjoyment.

Probably why I've never had a problem with my weight. I think eating is stupid and have never had an emotional connection to it. Always just ate for fuel.

Sounds like someone is in the market for Soylent (which i drink 1.5 times a day, on avg)

Thanks for the tip. Just purchased 12 bottles. Will report back.
Figured I would report back on Soylent. I drink one for lunch. No flavor. Perfect when chilled.

I am pretty pleased that it keeps me filled up until dinnertime. I can't even eat a salad for lunch and stay full without snacking, but this does the job. It also causes me to not poop for a 24 hour period after I drink it. I'm not sure if that's a positive or a negative. On the downside, it does cause me to feel nauseous for about 10 minutes after I drink it.

I don't like how processed it is, and it has a very high soy content. I don't think I could drink it every day on those points alone. I probably have about 2 bottles per week for lunch, as I really like the convenience of it. Will purchase again after my current stash runs out.

Yes, but you have to have a ton of it. Even so, I'm not about to drink this soy stuff every day at the risk of losing my edge.

I'd still rather not have the appearance and demeanor of a middle aged fat woman.
I thought that was half the fun of cycling.
