Phillies 100 losses

They did the best they could. When you submit a lineup card featuring Erik Kratz and Jeff Francoeur, you're essentially waving a white flag. End of an era for those two. Good luck in your second careers, fellas.

It got to a point where the Phillies werent even attempting to win games. Trotting out Asher and Buchanan and Harang over and over and over. Shutting down Franco. Shutting down Nola. The win total doesnt matter. The organization appears in much better shape moving forward today than it did at the start of the season. Nola can pitch. So can Eickhoff. Giles will lock down the closer role. Franco is a keeper. Altherr has the look of an everyday player. J.P Crawford, Nick Williams and Alfaro are 3 really good looking bats in the pipeline, as well as Andrew Knapp and Cornelius Randolph. I'd be surprised if Jake Thompson wasnt a top of the rotation starter and they're probably looking at A.J Puk, the Florida stud pitcher with the 1st pick in the draft, a kid who will possibly be in the bigs even faster than Nola. They're gonna have a crapload of money to spend but I imagine they sit on it until the year after. The future looks pretty good - and I definitely didnt think that when the first pitch was thrown this year. There's hope.

Good post by gdog. Coming into this year was the most hopeless a Phillies team in my lifetime has been, for the present and future, which is saying something, couldn't even bring myself to buy the MLB package and suffer through it this year, settled for things like watching us end the Nationals season. Now maybe not all of these guys will develop as we hope, but some will, and it will be fun to watch. If a bunch of them meet or exceed expectations, could build momentum quickly, with Marlins and Braves also rebuilding and Nationals apparently on their way down. There was basically no one worth watching coming out of spring training. I'll look forward to watching next spring.

I really like avoiding 100 losses actually -- as terrible as the Phillies have been many years in my life, have never gone there. Solid moral victory.

Also, I had no idea Eric Kratz was even still in baseball. And when I was at the game last week, surprised to see there was a guy Bugosevic on the team, literally never heard of him.

This site has Puk going third to the Braves and the Phillies taking Alex Hansen from Oklahoma, big rightie pitcher.

Puk and Hansen are considered the major league ready arms in the draft. Pint and Groome are the long-term HS guys. Puk is a power lefty which may give him an edge of Hansen when you consider Nola, Thompson and Eickhoff are right handers.
