So I'm driving around town this morning running errands with my wife. Of course I am wearing my Villanova jacket that USMC01 gave me a heads up on last year. We walk into the supermarket, and a woman races up to us and says, "I hope you guys win tomorrow, what a great school." I thanked her and said it's a great day to be a Wildcat. Two more total strangers wish VU good luck on Monday.
We go to the pet store to get some dog food and I hear someone say to his wife, "hold on, I have to talk to this guy." His wife says, Oh, Villanova." The guy opens his jacket, and he is wearing a Jackson Hall sweatshirt. It turns out Fr Ray Jackson was his brother. I told him Jackson Hall was built after my time, but I remembered his brother and balloon day, which addressed world hunger. He seemed genuinely touched that I remembered his brother and we talked for about five minutes before headed off in different directions.
It reminded me of 1985 after the team won it all when I would be stopped anytime I had anything on that said Villanova. I think the team and coach put such a positive face out for the University, it is hard to not like them.
It is a great day to be a Wildcat.
