Serial Season 2

I've been listening through back episodes of This American Life lately. A lot of good stuff. A little heavy on education sob stories and other liberal BS, but a good commute filler.

Is Bergdahl the deserter that got rescued or the vet that drove through the border stop in mexico with a truck full of guns?

is it a new narrator or that same girl with ridiculous vocal fry?

good for whatever This American Life is. two guys in my office have insufferable vocal fry as well. but i guess i'm just arbitrarily knocking women down a peg when i criticize them.

It's just another perspective on a mindless criticism that so many people spit out. No need to get defensive and go with the "some of my best male friends have vocal fry" comment.

I don't think it's arbitrary. It makes young people sound inauthentic and immature. Their speech is affected by their friends and celebrities. It's one thing to talk that way in middle school or high school but they have to get rid of that once they get into the real world.

I took Amtrak last weekend, two college aged girls were sitting next to me and speaking very loudly. Content aside, they sounded like the dumbest people in the world. I couldn't get my headphones in fast enough. No one will ever take them seriously in a business context. Young men can do the same thing with their brospeak.

I thought I was in the Louie scene when he's hungover and goes into the millennial coffee shop.

Listened to Season 2, Episode 1 at lunch today. Not bad....I'm interested enough to continue on with it.

Yeah Bergdagl seems like an idiot so far. Said it himself with the wanting to have a Jason Bourne moment comment. Granted, at age 23 I still had some delusions of grandeur but I don't think I would have tried to fix the US army by running through the desert.

I also enjoyed how Koenig basically goes "Hello, is this the Taliban? this is Sara!" in the previews for the next one

I am pretty excited for those convos. At first I was impressed guys from his platoon were willing to talk to her - and now she gets some real Taliban guys? My keyboard is gonna be destroyed, fellas

I realize this next question is borderline-stupid, but I just want to make sure I have this straight. I clicked on the podcast, and the narrator is referring to a video of the release of Bergdahl, but I just see a blank page as the audio continues. The video doesn't automatically launch, but is available on the Serial website. That's the way it supposed to be, correct?

Yes - it's a podcast. Audio only. You can also download it on your iphone using the podcast app.

Oh Sara
He had three knives and $300!

I am trying to get into it, but it's been a snoozer so far. I get that the outpost was a really bad assignment, but he was a few weeks from his next assignment. What type of Private FC thinks he is going to get the attention of a general by walking off his post?

Enjoyed episode two. Guess I didn't realize just how many Americans were searching for him as their main focus....."thousands" according to the podcast.

Agreed, Strick. Didn't realize how many resources they used to try to find him. Thought it was a smaller scale.
