College hoops is over. Concert & festival season is here. Time for a new music thread.

Any great 2015 albums? Shows you've been to, or are anxiously awaiting?

I only have tickets to a few upcoming shows. The Feelies in April, The Replacements/Supergrass/ J Roddy in May, Courtney Barnett in June. Also doing the XPN fest in July (MMJ & St. Vincent Saturday night).

That means a pretty open concert calendar for me. Suggestions always welcome.

I've got a pretty quiet calendar right now but I'm sure will find some shows to go to in the upcoming months. I am going to go to Governor's Ball day one (My Morning Jacket, Florence & the Machine, Decemberists, Chromeo, Benjamin Booker).

I saw a pretty cool show a few weeks ago, Sharon Van Etten and Leon Bridges. Bridges opened but he's getting a ton of buzz and sold out Bowery Ballroom in minutes for a show in June I believe. He's got a pretty cool sound, almost a little Sam Cooke style (link below).

I've been listening to the new albums by The Districts (Philly band) and Alabama Shakes.

Leon Bridges - Coming Home

Was down in Austin for some of SXSW
Some of the bands I saw, some were old...obviously.
Spoon
Flaming Lips
Quest Love
James Davis
Marian Hill
MLKMN

Good times had by all.

Love the new Alabama Shakes so far. Shaping up to be a very good band to keep an eye on. Love Spoon as well. Will be at Replacements in CoP for sure. Have a good group going down to that one.

There is almost no difference between this and the craft beer threads.

All I have booked so far is Foo Fighters @ Fenway, Walk the Moon @ HOB Boston. Was going to check out Boston Calling in May but will most likely be out of town that weekend (Beck, Pixies, MMJ).

So... I'll be drinking Bud Light and Twisted Tea this summer.

RW, how did you like SXSW? I've never made it down for that but would love to sometime. I did hit ACL last Fall which was fantastic, Austin is a great city.

I was a little late getting into the Spoon album from last year but it grew on me quickly. Excellent album.

"They Want My Soul" by Spoon is my favorite album from 2014.

Only have a couple of things lined up right now.....

The Revivalists and Galactic @ The Electric Factory on Thursday
Foo Fighters @ RFK on July 4
Phish @ the Mann in August

Digitalism @ Verboten (Brooklyn) 4/1
Ministry @ Irving Plaza (Manhattan) 5/6
Clutch @ Central Park (Manhattan) 5/19
TV on the Radio @ Kings Theater (Brooklyn) 5/20
The Who, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts @ Barclays Center (Brooklyn) 5/26

Kindbits Galactic show should be sick.. Revivalists opening right? Headed for a final weekend of skiing up north Thursday or Id be there. Are you not doing Jazz Fest this year?

I'm headed second weekend again... not the greatest lineup but sunday should be fun for those that love the more local NoLa bands. Will do Fiya Fest again on Friday. Have tickets for Joe Russo's Almost Dead on Saturday post Cochon dinner and Sunday doing a Midnight Preserves Show at Pres Hall which are always fun.

Chimpat.. I will be at Gov Ball to see MMJ that Friday as well, will have to grab a beverage. Pretty solid lineup that day. Probably going to day trip Mt Jam the next day depending upon the daily lineup.

Dead in Chicago over the 4th.

Maybe Peach Fest again this year, real fun lineup if you like ABB and Dead related bands.

I was down for interactive and part of music. Austin is awesome. Highly recommend it. You def see a change in attendance between the two pieces though.

What's cool about the interactive piece is that a lot of the bands will play a warm up set/show before the music bit a couple days later, so even though it's not the music "festival" - you still see a ton of great acts. Plus there are so many good food and drinking establishments in that city that you cant go wrong.

I'm not very familiar with the Flaming Lips catalog, but their live show always seems like a freak fest of fun. Hard to believe I've never crossed paths with them at a festival (yet).

A good show for the uninitiated?

Freak fest of fun pretty much nails it. Go see one in person.

Shakey Graves @ Irving Plaza
Modest Mouse @ Prospect Park Bandshell
Passion Pit @ Kings Theatre

Then I have tickets to the Who @ Forest Hills. Still not sure if I'm going to go. Also looking into Friday at Gov Ball-though might just get real aggressive and go see MMJ at Red Rock Aug 14 as I have to be in Vail Aug 22 for a wedding.

That new modest mouse album is excellent.

NorCal have you been to red rocks ever? Finally made the pilgrimage last summer and its a must for any music fan. Half contemplating hitting that MMJ show as well but it's the same weekend as the peach.

Modest mouse album is sick. Wanted to swing down to firefly for one day from sea isle but don't think they're doing single day tix.

BottleRock coming up and OSL just announced. Pretty solid have never seen Elton John so that will be cool.

A flaming lips festival set can be trippy but it's nothing like one of their solo shows. Caught them Halloween '13 holy hell it was nuts.

Very happy with modest mouse album. Saw them at Webster last week. Good show- though was stuck in the back until the encore.

Have not been to red rock. High on my list-really would love to make that work.

Yup, Revivalists opening for Galactic. It's a coin flip on who I like more. Galactic always brings it, but you pretty much know what you are going to get with them. The Revivalists are on a great trajectory, every time I see them they get better and better. We're not hitting jazzfest this year, unfortunately, as we're making a run down to Key West a few weeks later for our 10 year anniversary, and my wife just started a new job so her vacation time is limited.

FiyaFest might have been my favorite day last year. Have they announced the lineups yet? I noticed that they scheduled Galactic that day for the Fairgrounds, so that means that the 5 different Stanton Moore backed bands are probably not able to play at Fiya. Found it interesting that Quint scheduled it that way to kinda c*ckblock FiyaFest. I'm guessing it wasn't coincidence.

Glad to hear positive reviews on the new Modest Mouse, I need to check that out this week.

Bgranc, definitely will have to grab a cold one at Gov Ball.

Red Rocks is on my concert venue bucket list (as is the Gorge). The MMJ show this summer will be incredible.

Wow those are two bands I haven't listened to in 15 years. Gotta Go was one of my go to jams back in the day.

Over the past two years ive started hitting up shows of all the punk / hardcore bands i listened to in high school / college.

Shows are still great fun. The bands haven't put out new music since i stopped listening to them. So they dont have any new fans, and im not the old guy at the show.

Guttermouth just played a dive bar in brooklyn. Must have been 20 people there. They suck, though.
Saw Bad Religion two months ago at terminal five. They are legitimately awesome still.

Bad Religion are legends-honestly don't get enough respect in the music community. Probably top 3 most influential punk bands of all time.

Bowery Electric, not Ballroom

Here is a link to a recording of MMJ's 4 hour performance at Bonnaroo in 2008. This was linked to in an article featured on Grantland.com right now about their upcoming tour and EP. Thought I would share for anyone who missed it. Pretty good quality given the fact that it was raining during the performance.

Love the new album from Lord Huron. Anybody seen those guys before? Thinking of checking out their show in NYC in a couple of weeks.

Heard a few songs from their new album & an NPR interview with the lead singer. Need to put aside an hour to listen to it front to back. Haven't seen them yet, but I will in July at the XPN festival.

I've been stuck on the new Courtney Barnett album all week.
