Only 7 people killed in 2 days this weekend. Seems like Mayor Rahm is doing a grea job. Thanks Obama!

"This is not a fair statement, where all these people are killing each other is not really in the city, it's just that it is included in the city limits." - every person in Chicago.

One of the 7 killed was a 7 year old boy. The killing happened after midnight and the bullet was intended for the boy's father, who had been arrested 45 times and was a high-ranking gang member. The chief of police made a very direct and not so PC public statement: "If the father hadn't been who he was, the boy would still be alive right now."

"This would all go away if the government paid corporations and their white employees to move to these neighborhoods." - GoP policy wonks
I wonder if Chicago will vote against the terms of their bailout when they "officially" recognize their bankruptcy?

10 killed over the weekend. While nobody says it isn't fair because it all happens in poor neighborhoods, the reality is that people don't care as much because it hasn't impacted other neighborhoods. There was much more of an uproar over a handful of robberies on Michigan Ave. by small groups of youngsters than there is over gun violence. If it isn't in people's backyard they just don't care as much. Murders might as well be taking place in Houston as far as most middle class and rich people feeling it is happening in their city. Unless it makes people feel unsafe they just don't pay attention, and none of this makes people outside the neighborhoods where it happens feel unsafe. Sad but true.

what percentage of the homicides in the inner cities are drug and/or gang related? 95% 4% robberies and the 1% from a stray bullet? thats why no one cares. the 95% being killed are drug dealers or gang members.

Maybe it's time for the residents of Chicago to sit back and think what 100 years of single party rule has gotten them.

But the ultra liberals on this board will turn the topic to gun control and corporate greed because it it easier than talking about difficult subjects that place blame on people for their own behavior.

61% in 2012, 65% in 2013.
It also depends on what you consider a gang. A group of friends? A drug distribution network? That definition differs within law enforcement / public policy communities. Some don't care if you're childhood buddies or cartel foot soldiers.

Very sad but also kind of ironic that this guy was anywhere near his 7 year old son.

Tragic.

On a brighter note, I was in Chicago a few weeks ago for work. That is a friggen awesome city in the summer.

NN1188 - get to Wrigley field or at least Wrigleyville? best park in all of baseball.

I've been to Chicago twice, cubs weren't in town this past time. I did get to Wrigley for 2 innings of a game (had to go to a meeting) the first time I went.

I was there for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals this time around, whatever game they came back and scored twice in the 3rd period. Also saw a show at Second City -- enjoyed it.

when was that? i have sat in good seats and the bleachers and never experienced anything bad or anything remotely like that.

yes its not a modern park but thats why i like it.

"dump"
Let's not all go hook, line and sinker for the idea that a sports venue needs to have every amenity under the sun. Putting a video board at Wrigley this year is a travesty.

I went to the CoPhillies game on Fathers day and it was some throwback thing where the video board was only numbers, no names, pics or video and the other Miley Cirus between innings and kiss-camming BS was kept to a minimum. Was a nice experience.

Chicago, home of community organizer extraordinaire BHO and his buddy Mayor Rahm.

They can take down the video board for all I care. My first time there since it went up was this past Saturday, and I noted to my buddy that I hadn't looked at the old scoreboard once now that the video board is there. I'm talking about the fact that you leave you seat to get a beer and the concourses are so jammed and poorly laid out that you wish you had stayed in your seat. The when it is time to leave you have to wait 20 minutes or push and shove with 35,000 of your fellow Chicagoans just to get outside. Almost as bad as the old Yankee Stadium.

How many beers do you drink during the course of a game?
Not too many. If you've been there and don't understand why it is a dump, I'm not here to change your mind. You're certainly not going to make a convincing case that it isn't. Many people enjoy a few in Wrigleyville pre-game then walk in and see the scoreboard and the ivy and get all giddy thinking Roy Hobbs might be in the lineup. Good for them. If you have a really good seat it is a nice place to watch a game. If you have one of the many, many not so great seats, the view is poor and the rest of the stadium is well below average. Hence the rennovations. Hopefully it will be a better experieince once they update it.

i loved the old Yankee stadium, you cant tell me the games at the new stadium are better.

my first time at Wrigley was July of 2010 I was in Chicago for business and it just so happened the Phils were in town , I went and got to see superstar Jamie Moyer struggle through 4 innings of work. Howard hit two out that night, one was out of the park into the street.

my favorite is Wrigley, then Fenway, Baltimore, old yankee stadium.

danmacguire, the bleachers are a poor experience if they are sold out.

i love the third base line, 2-3 rows back are only like $80 a pop. its worth it. i get the draft Old Style. id rather leave my seat and grab one than drink a crappy bud light from a plastic bottle.

Third base line 2-3 rows back cost $155. You can get Old Style in your seat, as well as the two Goose Island 312 varieties. Have you been to PIttsburgh or San Fran?

i have not been to either but have heard great things about both. however, people say the San Fran games can go from 80 and sunny to 55 and rainy in an instant.

You're explaining why it's a dump in terms of food service. In terms of watching a baseball game, it's a 10. Having a beer and a dog are a nice side benefit of the game, but they're about 5% of the equation. Spend 2 grand and have someone deliver you crab legs and single malt in the Steinbrenner seats if you want convenience.

i never understood why people want great food and service at a baseball game. grab a cold beer and a dog and sit and enjoy. if anything that should be the least of your concerns.

the only thing that bothers me about Phillies games is the $16 or $20 for parking. thats a crime.

I went to the Phillies game on Thursday night. The Phillies offered tickets for $15, and parking was $16. With the way they've been playing, it's no wonder parking is more expensive than going into the game.
