Two games in a row holding opponent without a TD. That makes 3 out of last four.4 games.
Bring on Richmond.
Bring on Richmond.
No doubt Richmond and VMI are the best two offensive teams in CAA. W&M is explosive. Facing Richmond next Saturday will be a HUGE task.Defense will need to be on their A game next few weeks. If they are it may get a little tight around the collars of Spiders & Dukes.
Short answer - Yes. He tops Cats in tackles with 69,while Austin Calitro is right behind with 68. But Cats record might hurt as you pointed out.Ed- does Cherry any shot at being All American? I know he was preseason All American and Buchanan Award favorite but with the team struggling can he win it? I don't know his stats specifically. He better be 1st team CAA at least. Stud
Cats lead CAA in scoring defense at 17.6 before holding URI to 3 today. Cats rank 2nd in the country in red zone defense.Have allowed the opposition to score on just 12 of 23 red zone possessions(52%) Have forced 4 turnovers in red zone. The combined record of the three opponents that were held without a TD is 7-19.
The W&M game was a nightmare. But then again they are a very, very good team.I love your spirit...so let's volley one more time.
Of the top teams in the CAA, we have only played W&M. Got spanked...over at halftime. They put up 466yds of offense, and they even missed out on the possession for the Pick 6. Can we at least agree that it's a lot of yards to give up? I know that time of possession plays a role...but so does getting off the field on 3rd down - we needed some plays and didn't get them.
Candidly....URI was awful. Albany was awful. Maine was awful. Delaware is headed south, in a hurry. The only decent team we have defeated is Patriot League Fordham - glad it rained that night.
You can quote all of the stats you want....so can I - but overall, I would rather be undefeated and in the middle of the pack statistically.
Hope you are "winning" the Defense posts next Saturday...I will be more than happy to tell you that you were right...if/when it happens.
On to Richmond...
I was at the game....and yes, I hate rain, so maybe it's just my perspective. But the ball-handling was definitely impacted on the part of both teams - so I'm guessing that they both only used a portion of their playbooks.
I'm not a half-empty person - more likely a realist. Kudos to the D for doing their job against opponents that they should dominate. Note that UCONN only beat Tulane the other day by a score of 7-3....Tulane has wins over Maine and winless UCF. UCONN isn't scaring anyone.
I desperately want the defense to be the reason we beat Richmond and JMU. But I also come from a blue-collar background where everyone didn't get a trophy just for doing their job. I'm not ready to say they are a dominant D....if we win on Saturday, and the D plays a key role, I will be the first to post something on their behalf.
UConn is 5-5, and might be headed to a bowl game.I was at the game....and yes, I hate rain, so maybe it's just my perspective. But the ball-handling was definitely impacted on the part of both teams - so I'm guessing that they both only used a portion of their playbooks.
