i guess there was some marathon in the CoDB yesterday because I saw quite a few people wearing their CoDB marathon medals around the city today. Is this normal? Reeks of douchebaggery. The day of its acceptable as long as you just came from marathon and are still in running attire. Once you shower and change, that medal should never go around your neck again at least in public.

I was at brunch around 2pm yesterday in the CoDB and someone walked in wearing one of those poofy blankets and medal from the race and the whole place stood up and gave him a round of applause. I have never been so sick in my life. What was worse was that his time was 5 + hours. That is not an accomplishment to be proud of. Unless you have a time in the 3:30 range or less it's no different that going for a really long walk.

On the 1 to Penn Station later on another "marathoner" got light headed and fainted on the subway. His family was furious that no one got up to give him a spot to sit down too. Can't make this stuff up.

I'm not a runner, but I hate people who run marathons slowly and never shut up about it. These people call themselves "marathoners", but they're really hobby joggers.

I only saw one on the walk to work. European, probably Swedish. They don't know any better.

the two main motivators in running a marathon are the post-finish selfie and the 26.2 sticker on your car

I think it's really hard to run a marathon and the people who do so are allowed to be proud of themselves, even the day after they run.

The wearing of the medal should be extended to boozing at the bars after the race. Borderline douchey but still should be acceptable.

My favorite "running sticker" is the 5k.

A friend of mine want to run in a half marathon in late april 2016. he keeps on talking about how he is training for it. That doesn't sound right, because April is six months away. Doesn't it take weeks, not months, to get ready for a half marathon?

Guy I work with always talks about his marathon running. I was shocked when he let it out that the longest 'marathon' he has run was a half-marathon. What a dick.

when i finished a marathon i was sitting on the ground w/ the space blanket on my shoulders, taking a moment to eat a banana and let the sense of accomplishment wash over me.

15 seconds later my dad walked over and said, "ok, get up, we are gonna start walking to the car now."

"how far away is the car?"

"about a mile or so." no fanfare, no big to do. just get your ass up and walk to the car so we can go home and watch the eagles/raiders game.

Eh. A marathon is a physical grind whether your ran 2:10 or 5 hours.
You hear a lot more people bragging about their fantasy team, which is far less of an effort. Medal wearing should be limited until you go home and shower. I'll allow until sundown that night though.

No celebratory schmoke show orgy?

this was back in 2001, well before my schmoke show orgy days. although one of the girls who was in my most recent 3some just finished the race and got drunk afterwards and texted me saying she wanted another 3some as a congrats for finishing. i told her i was more than happy to oblige.

I've done 2 Fulls and about 15 Halfs. I usually keep the medal around my neck until I get back to my hotel. Once I shower and change, it's off for good. They all hang on a curtain rod in my bedroom.

When I ran the Chicago Marathon I may have worn the medal on the plane going home the next day. Looking back, that was a pretty douchey thing to do. But I saw lots of people in the airport with them that next day. I pretty much hate myself and never give myself any credit for anything, but I was proud to cross the finish line for the full marathon. It is really hard.

I have a 26.2 sticker on my bumper. So what.

I love the big city half marathons. I want to do the Philly R&R next year. I barely need any training for a half. Just diet for about 10 days, drop 5-7 lbs, mix in a few mid-range runs and I'm good.

I also want to do the Marine Corp Marathon in DC eventually. But I just don't have time to train for another full.

In Laguardia this morning it was equal marathon medals to Mets hats. Both were about a day late...

I've never worn one after showering/changing. I would rather have a pint glass (like they give out for spring lake 5) instead of a medal. They just take up space after the day after the race. I've only kept the ones from NYC and marine corps. Someday, when I qualify for Boston, I will proudly wear some logo garb from that race after I run it.

If you saw a runner yesterday at 2 pm, chances are they were much quicker than your guess of 5 hours. First wave doesn't start until 9:40 and there is about a 2 mile walk after the finish line. That's sub 4 most probably.

Medals are for WINNERS. Only one guy should be wearing one when the race has been completed.

I'm in the CoDB now and just saw maybe 50 people wearing them. At night. Over a day later? What!?!
My guess, or hope, is that these are not CoDBers. They are people who traveled in for the race and plan to wear their medal until they leave. They're acting like olympians who wear their medal around the village hoping to get some Hope Solo love (she only hooks up with winners).

Brunch was at 2 right off CP West. It was probably closer to 330-4 when this happened. I just thought it was weird to give the guy a standing ovation. At first I thought a couple just got engaged or maybe a veteran in uniform walked in.

I ran and did not wear it after I got home to shower/change. Had I gone to a bar, I probably would've worn it to get some potential free drinks. Went to an apartment party and kept it at home - hobbling as I walked was enough of an indicator that I just ran as opposed to bling around my neck

Now the difference is that you DO deserve a standing ovation for your participation in the marathon though.

Real weird. A standing ovation?

Were you the only one still sitting down or did you feel pressured to jump in?
