Weekend Spa?

I want to take my (7 months) pregnant wife away for MLK weekend. She can't fly, so we are limited to a ~4 hour driving radius around the CoDB. She can't ski, so that's out. She can't drink, so it won't be too much fun to do a random city like Boston with no real purpose. The only thing I can think of is a spa weekend somewhere. Anyone ever done like this and have any recommendations? There are some decent looking places in the Hudson Valley, but I'm thinking the further south we go the better the weather will likely be. Maybe something on the outskirts of the CoDC?

Always enjoy groupthink from the board on matters such as these.

The Homestead or Greenbriar could be good.

More importantly, are you getting her a push present?

Is this a surprise or have you discussed this with her?

8 months pregnant by MLK day? 4 hour car ride- my wife would not have been happy. Probably take you 6 hours if you factor in her having to go to bathroom every 30 min...

Not to knock the idea, but not sure she is going to be able to do many spa services at that point anyway

Stay local...get her and mom/ sister / friend a pedicure and facial at local day spa and complete some nesting activity she is anxious about while she is there...nice dinner and night at local nice hotel for two of you if you really want to get out

Granted, its in the CoDB and she'll have to wear a bathing suit, but Aire spa in tribeca is the most home run worthy date ive ever encountered. Not a woman alive who wouldnt be happy with it.

Maybe wait until she shits out the kid, and that can be your push present.

MWG inadvertently throws out a good suggestion. When my wife was that pregnant it was the summer time, the relief of getting into a pool and getting some help to support that extra weight was something she enjoyed more than she expected.

Anything involving a foot rub is probable a good idea too. Those shrek feet take alot of the pounding at that point.

To reiterate some other posts, don't go to far. The constant need to piss going to make the trip unbearable for both of you.

From your place do Bedford springs.

Way too far. Thats 3:30 from my house.

Note, you are better off going closer to home. I'm sure you could find a nice spot in Catskills, NJ highlands. If not Bedford might not too bad a hike.

Crystal Springs resort in NJ. Had a wedding there this past summer, it was great and the spa was really nice. Good food as well overall at the restaurants there.

Two suggestions

1. Winvian Farm in Litchfield CT
2. The Cranwell in Lenox, MA

Find some girl on backpage to come to your home. Make sure it's under "body rubs" and not "therapeutic massage". For an extra $20 most girls will give you a prostate massage while Mrs watches.

Thanks for the refs, doofuses. She wants to go away since we haven't been on vacation in almost 2 years, but you're all correct that sitting in the car with her for any length of time is a giant pain in the ass. I'll try to convince her to stay in the CoDB and just do a day spa and then a decent hotel.

novabubba, I actually love Crystal Springs -- my parents have a townhouse there and I go all the time. I've never been to (or even seen) the spa there but I like the restaurant and I'm into that bio-dome style pool area. Since it's part of our regular rotation it's not really a "getaway" for us, but I'm looking at the pictures of the spa and it seems pretty legit.

I ran Aire by her and she wasn't into it because it is pool-based, and apparently pregnant women can't go in hot water. Taking away the jacuzzi/pool stuff, that place seems pretty lame. Good thing I ran it by her first since I was pretty close to booking it.

TwoDecks, this Winvian Farm place looks legit as hell. My only concern is that at these smaller places you can feel kind of isolated, especially in the middle of winter in what isn't exactly tourist season. But it has to be a pretty decent establishment to sustain a spa of that size.

I'm renting a house near Woodstock with friends for New Years. There's a nice spa and good restaurants within a mile of the house. I can report back.

Can pregnant chicks even get decent massages? There's limitations, no?
Yeah, they do "prenatal" massages but they are kind of shitty. She already got one but they make you lay on your side and they are pretty scared to use any pressure or do anything besides kind of rub you down. But she is constantly complaining about her back hurting so I think this is my only option to try to get her some relief.

The Winvian is about 3 miles from Litchfield which has a bunch of restaurants and a little village. The hotel has a very isolated feel, but the town always has activity - at least enough activity to not bore you to death. Definitely a lot of NYers who have weekend places and the like, so you won't feel entirely isolated

This would definitely not be MY first choice for a weekend, but my wife loves that place.

Also, I'll second the Woodstock, VT recommendation. The Woodstock inn is another good place for what you're looking for. Place is a bigger, more like a hotel in terms of amenities (two restaurants that are usually busy, etc.) And the town of Woodstock has a handful of restaurants and nice place to walk around plus their season is generally year round. Downside for both is you typically have two night minimum stays on weekends

There's prenatal chiropractic and acupuncture stuff. It helped give Mrs. Dimer some relief. Even if it's just a mental thing...

Let me guess, she's complaining about the pain like she's the first woman to have ever been pregnant?

To be fair, I wouldn't want to have a human being inside me for the better part of a year.

Who is going to take this one?
This guy.
