from BE Coaches call today:
On his win at Creighton & the upcoming game against 'Nova:
" i think our guys had a terrific defensive effort to hold them to 61 points. I was proud of our competitiveness on the defensive end. It was a very good win for our young group and sets up a huge game against a Villanova team that I think can win a national championship. I have so much respect for the Villanova program, and their kids and the way they play - how fundamentally sound they are and the way they bring it every time they step on the floor."
VUSports:
I am interested in your thoughts on the development of Traci Carter and Haanif Cheatham. How does their improvement since the first time you faced Villanova factor into the game tomorrow?
Wojo:
"The development of Traci and Haani as Freshmen guards in this league has been really good. Both of those kids, from the moment they stepped on campus to where they are now are much improved players. Up until our last game against Creighton, Haani had a stretch where he had three 20 point, Big East games in a row. I don't know how many Freshmen can do that regularly. He has been a guy that we use on the ball, off the ball and he has given us great production in a very efficient manner on the offensive end and also he is our best defender as a Freshman on the perimeter. Obviously Henry Ellenson deserves all the attention that he gets but Haanif Cheatham has had one of the great Freshmen years, at least in Marquette history and he has been a terrific player. Traci has improved immensely since the start of the year. He is the one guy on our team who has the best point guard instincts and does the best job of getting guys the ball when they are open. I think his on-ball defense has improved tremendously and I think he is going to be a really good player in the Big East as he continues to mature and grow."
