the magnitude of the accomplishment

is only now setting in for me. some crazy stats:

--we shot 58.2 percent from the field--highest in history. including 50 percent from 3.
--arch shot 71 from 2 and 62 from 3 for the tourney.
--we had the third hardest path to the championship, as measured by seeding
--we defeated 4---4!--top 10 teams in a row to finish it. and played a fifth--iowa that was ranked 3rd at one point in the season.
--we defeated the top 2 seeds in the tourney to win it.
--despite the competition, our average margin of victory was second all time--behind kentucky in 1996.

this was at the same time one of the most difficult challenges ever, and one of the most dominating performances against that competition. i cannot get my head around the magnitude of our accomplishment.

Coach K on Arch

Quick story. Coach K used to have a radio show on Sirius - I think on Tuesday nights from like 7-8. Not sure if he still does. It was "his show" but a guy named Dave Sims would co-host it with him. It wasn't really centered on his Duke team..It was more about college hoops in general and each week a different coach would come on and have like a 20-30 min conversation with him.

For some reason I use to always catch it right as it was starting. One week about 2 years ago Jay was his guest. It was a pretty mundane interview but towards the end Arch came up. I think it was right after the team won that tourney down in PR. I was surprised that K even knew his name. He said "that's a kid you win championships with, and I don't mean conferemce championships or Caribbean championships. I mean national championships."

Now maybe he gets notes slipped to him before each show telling him what to say. But that quote always stuck with me. Pretty prophetic from a guy who knows great guard play when he sees it.
