Kris Parker to Announce College Decision Friday

Villanova will gain some further clarity on its 2023 recruiting class on Friday when Kris Parker announces his college decision. Parker, a four-star G/F who is ranked 80th in his class by Rivals, will choose between Villanova, Alabama, Missouri and UCF.

Parker's recruitment has been pretty quiet, so not a whole lot of info on potential lean or a certain program in the lead here.

Nova Offers Elite 2025 G Meleek Thomas

The Cats continue to stay busy on the recruiting trail and are taking a big swing with their latest offer, which has gone out to elite five-star 2025 guard Meleek Thomas out of Pittsburgh. Thomas is listed at 6-3 and is currently ranked as the No. 7 prospect in the class of 2025.

Some other schools currently pursuing Thomas include Indiana, Penn State, Missouri, Kansas State, St. John's and Pitt.

Report: Nova Interested in Recent Notre Dame Decommit

We are hearing reports that Nova has reached out to 2023 sharpshooter Parker Friedrichsen, who is currently ranked No. 132 in his class. Friedrichsen was a Notre Dame commit but was granted his release with the news that Mike Brey was stepping away from the Irish.

Friedrichsen is listed at 6-4 and is from Oklahoma. It sounds like opportunity and style are the factors he is giving the most weight in his decision. As far as opportunity, like most elite players, he wants to have a chance to make an immediate impact. Stylistically, it seems he wants an offense that doesn't hesitate to let the threes fly. Interestingly, Nova would seem to check both boxes, adding a bit of intrigue to the potential here.

Just how serious the interest is from Nova remains to be seen, as does if that interest is being reciprocated. However, it certainly seems like something to keep an eye on as Nova remains with a one-man 2023 class and is set to have more outgoing players than incoming.

Some other schools noted to be pursuing Friedrichsen are Creighton, Nebraska, Wake Forest, Kansas and Davidson.

Programming Note

Just a heads up, I'll be out of town this weekend. As such, can't be sure I'll be able to have eyes on the game on Saturday. I will do my best to do so and have recap/reaction/postgame quotes, but if you don't see anything on the game, that's why. Should be back on schedule for Tuesday.

Nova Offers 2024 F/C Thomas Sorber

More work on the 2024 class as the Cats have gotten an offer out to F/C Thomas Sorber. Sorber is a local prospect playing at Archbishop Ryan. He is 6-9 and a four-star prospect currently ranked 89th in his class by Rivals. Sorber has been having a fantastic junior season at Ryan, highlighted by a 29-point, 17-rebound effort in a win over O'Hara last week. Sorber joins a long list of 2024 offers in what is an incredibly important class for the Wildcats. For now, another name to keep an eye on.

Longino Injury Update

We posted yesterday about bracing for potential bad news on Jordan Longino's injury, as Kyle Neptune indicated that the school would be issuing a statement on the situation in the coming days. On Tuesday, we got that statement, and it wasn't as bad as expected. The school called Longino's injury a "left hamstring strain" after an MRI and said he would be re-evaluated in two weeks. Now, that still means Longino stands to miss at least three weeks, and there is no guarantee that he will be able to return upon his next evaluation. However, when word of a statement came out, the vibe was much more ominous. I noted that the school rarely issues statements on injuries unless surgery/season-long absences are involved, and this is a situation where I am happy to have been wrong. Again, no guarantee that Longino will return in two weeks, but to have word come that nothing is torn or broken is encouraging.

Expecting Bad News on Jordan Longino?

Villanova's coyness with injuries continued Monday as Kyle Neptune shared a confusing update on Jordan Longino. Neptune, who called Longino "day to day" following Saturday's loss to Xavier, declined to give a clear update on Longino's status Monday but confirmed he would be out for this week's two road games. However, another part of Neptune's comments were much more ominous. Neptune said the school would be putting out an update in the next few days. It would not be in character for the school to issue a statement on a short-term injury, and while I hate to speculate, in my experience the school rarely, if ever, releases official statements on injuries unless surgery is involved. Now, considering how the school usually handles injury updates (Neptune has taken the already established precedent of limited info, vague updates and a willingness to produce contradictory updates to a whole new level) I wouldn't be surprised if no such statement emerges this week. However, if it does, it will likely not be positive and since Neptune was willing to state publicly that an official update was coming from the school, it's probably wise to prepare for bad news on the Longino injury front.
