2024 SF A.J. Swinton Talks Recruitment, Nova With National Staff

Swinton, a 6-6 four-star small forward who is currently ranked 49th in the class by Rivals, was at Hoops Mania at the start of this season. He recently talked with Travis Graf of Rivals' national staff about some of the schools that are recruiting him, including Villanova. Swinton attends DeMatha HS in Maryland, in the heart of a DMV recruiting area where Villanova has found a ton of recruiting success lately. Of course, current Nova star Justin Moore also attended DeMatha.

Jay Wright Watches DeShawn Harris-Smith

Jay Wright was in the building to watch 2023 target DeShawn Harris-Smith in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference semifinals on Sunday. Harris-Smith's PVI squad took down Gonzaga, with Harris-Smith dropping 17 points.

A four-star small forward, Harris-Smith is currently ranked 67th in this class by Rivals. I'd expect a bump in that ranking in the next update as Harris-Smith has been playing excellent basketball recently. He appears to be a priority for the Cats in 2023 at this point.

Brief Update On Justin Edwards From National Staff

Just two weeks ago Villanova got a 2023 offer out to local five-star prospect Justin Edwards, and on Tuesday Rivals' national recruiting analyst Travis Graf caught up with Edwards to get an update on his recruitment, including who is pursuing the hardest and some thoughts on each of those schools.

Here is what Edwards said about Villanova: "They just offered me recently. They wanted me to come see practice and a game first, so I went to watch them when they played St. John’s. They wanted me to watch how they played, their player structure and how they get their players ready for the next level. I like that their main focus is getting players ready for the next level."

Just A Heads Up

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that I'll be out of town this weekend. Going to do my best to catch the game and be able to do a recap, but can't guarantee it. If the recap is missing Saturday night, that's why. If I'm not able to get the recap up, apologies in advance.

I'm due back on Tuesday and plan on having everything back to normal starting with the recap of the UConn game Tuesday night.

As always, appreciate you all.

Nova Offers 2023 5-Star SF Justin Edwards

Nova made a move in the 2023 class Wednesday night, offering 5-star small forward Justin Edwards. Edwards is a local prospect out of Imhotep Charter in Philadelphia. Edwards is listed a 6-7. He's currently ranked 8th in his class by Rivals.

He already has garnered plenty of interest, with offers from UConn, Kentucky, Maryland, Miami, Ohio State, Seton Hall, Tennessee and Virginia, among others.

Edwards joins D.J. Wagner and DeShawn Harris-Smith as 2023 players with Nova offers.

The updated 2023 rankings are set to be released on Thursday, so we'll see if there are any changes to Edwards' standing among his class.

Pregame Rumblings

I didn't make the trip to NYC for the game tonight so I don't have any first-hand accounts, but I'm hearing some rumblings regarding the status of Justin Moore and Collin Gillespie and they indicate that both will attempt to play tonight.

As far as Gillespie, I saw some video of his pregame warmup and 1) he looked to be moving ok and 2) when Bryan Antoine was listed as questionable/game-time decision a few weeks ago, he came out for warmups dressed but did not participate at all so the fact that Gillespie was putting up shots and really testing the ankle out is encouraging.

Again, nothing official here and this is all second-hand info so take with a grain of salt, but I think there is enough here that it was worth mentioning.
