Van pelt absolutely ripped the big east this week

And said no way nova is a 1 seed. Went so far as to say can't wait to see the conference flop. We have to win this game for many reasons but I really want to to shut some of these guys up. Normally I would care less here or there on negative comments but seems like it was a pretty strong theme this year with an obnoxious angle to it.

OT: Petersen Events Center

Decided to work off the alcohol and pre-game adrenaline so I took a two hour walk from the hotel to the Pitt Campus. Fifth Avenue which takes you from the city center to Pitt. It is far from scenic and not recommended at night. I was able to walk right in as KJBert mentioned in another post and went down to the floor. The place is amazing at it seats 12,500. Mr. Petersen put up $10mm and the state kicked in $53mm but did not see the total price tag. A scaled down version would be perfect for the Pavilion.

Pitt's campus is huge but far from attractive. You definitely get the feel you are at a state research institution.

What a night!

First - Nova crushes Lafayette.

Second - My High School Senior changes his college choice.

Third - He tells us that he doesn't want to go to St. Joe's and turns down a healthy scholarship!

Fourth - He tells us he has been accepted to Nova and wants to go to Nova.

We are so excited! Now all we have to do is figure out how to pay for Nova! My college bill just increased 50% percent.

LIFE IS GREAT!!!!!

Go Nova!

RobN

Kris Dunn

He may well bolt for NBA $$ now, but IMO, he should stick another year & prove he can lead a program through a rebuild-mode. If I'm an NBA GM, I'd pass on him ... yesterday hurt his BB aura. IMO, he'd be a 2nd Round pick or undrafted. I'm sure many will disagree.

Looking for some Good spots to eat or see in PGH

We are heading to Pittsburgh in the morning for the game tomorrow (staying right near the venue at the Marriott). It's been ages since my son or I have been to Pittsburgh so I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for good places to eat or things to see while we are in town. We'll prob spend a few hours mulling around town on Sunday before heading back to Philly.

Thanks, and GO CATS!!

What the Villanova - NC State Stats May Be Telling Us

kenpom has Villanova with an 85% chance of winning today with a project 10 pt win (74-64)

NC State Key Stats

Adj Offensive Efficiency 110.9 (34th in country)

Adj Defensive Efficiency 98.2 (87th)

four factors:

Off Effective FG% 49.5 (149th)

Def Effective FG 45.5% (43rd)

Turnover % Ranked 28th nationally in not turning the ball over on offense, Ranked 343rd in creating TOs on defense

Off Reb %: Ranked 79th in grabbing O boards and 139th in preventing them.

FTA/FGA: Ranked 221st best at getting to the line on offense - ranked 125th at not sending the opponent to the line.

3PFG 32.5% (225th)

3PFG Def: 31.1% (83rd)

So the positives from NC State perspective: they run a generally balanced offense that takes care of the ball. They are an above average rebounding team that plays good defense

On the flip side, their negatives - they don't create turnovers or get steals with great frequency - which would indicate they are not used to applying a large amount of ball pressure or extending way out on the wings. they don't get to the FT line a lot and when they do they shoot only 68.4% from the line.

what to look for - if NC State shoots above their averages from the line and the stripe and Villanova shoots the ball poorly - the game could be closer than anticipated and the emotion/pressure of an NCAA game could begin to impact the outcome.

Wolfpack has about an inch height advantage across the roster, Villanova has about a half year experience edge on average.

For comparison - Villanova key stats:

Adj Offensive Efficiency 120.9 (4th in country)

Adj Defensive Efficiency 92.2 (12th)

four factors:

Off Effective FG% 55.9 (10th)

Def Effective FG 45.4% (39th)

Off Reb %: Cats are close to national averages

FTA/FGA Cats are 54th for Off and 31st for Def

3PFG 41.4% (22nd)

3PFG Def 30.8% (27th)

there has been so much chalk that ...

... the five lowest ranked teams remaining in the field per kenpom are:
116 UAB
59 Georgia St
41 NC State
39 Oregon
37 UCLA

the only other team outside the top 32 is 35 Cincy with Dayton checking in at 32.

the kenpom rankings for the 8 seeds are:
26 SDSU
34 Cincy
39 Oregon
41 NC State

UCLA and UAB play each other

what we have is a Round of 32 where most every game is evenly matched.
even GA St - X is a good match-up despite GA St being a 14 seed.
