LadyCats Trip

If you go to the University site, there is a report on the trip to Europe, and the games are included. I think you will see some new names that might help up this year.

I am perfectly aware of the LadyCats' play and record the last few years, but when we were nationally competitive about seven or eight years ago I enjoyed watching them as much as any mens' team. I prefer a great backdoor cut to a highlight reel dunk any day of the week.

Upcoming season

I'm jacked up - it should be compelling stuff! Oh, wait. Are there more than 247 people that care about women's hoops? Family and friends, that's about it. Without Title IX, it wouldn't even exist. Title IX is the biggest farce that was ever forced down the throats of Collegiate Athletics.
Apart from family and friends, what's the average home attendance for the "Lady Wildcats"? 53?
A complete freakin' joke. Stick to Ballet, cooking, ironing, needle point, prancing down the fashion runway, make up applications, shopping and the like. It's a wastefull drain on an Athletic Depts. budget.

Highlights from our Lady Cats Hoops Banquet today

Harry mentioned the good start this year and winning the Big 5 championship. Then the negative impact that the injuries had on the team's
progression for the duration of the year.

Aards went to Shannon Elliot, Scholar-Athlete; Kyle Dougherty, Most Improved; Tia Grant, Coaches' Award; Laura Sweeney, Best Rebounder; and Maria Getty, Most Valuable Player.

Kyle Dougherty was funny saying didn't I get the most improved award last
year too? I must really have been bad.

Our Lady Cats currently have a 3.211 cumulative GPA with 8 having GPA's of 3.0 or higher and 5 having GPA's of 3.5 or higher. Not too shabby.

The team will be travelling to Italy May 19 to 29 and play games while
travelling to Como, Verona, Venice, Montecatinni, Florence and Rome.

Their were ots of sincere thanks from the award winners and and the departing seniors.

As usual it was a fun time.

Mel Greenberg - Philly Inquirer

Mel apparently tendered his resignation from the Inquirer a few days before the final four. I believe they didn't pay for his trip to the final four last year and I think the handwriting was on the wall. Most of the major dailys across the country have been cutting staff left and right and women's sports are pretty near the bottom of the totem pole.

The Inquirer only ran the AP wire stories on the final four. The two Dallas papers did the same thing even though they were only a few hours away. Sad, but the print media is fast becoming a dinosaur.

Mel's blog will continue and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get picked up by one of the major onlines (ESPN.com, etc.). A true "guru", Mel's print articles in the Inky will be missed and the women's BB game will have one less outlet to reach the masses.
