Corey Evans Believes Robinson-Earl and Antoine Will Deliver a National Title

Rival's Corey Evans shared seven takeaways following Wednesday's McDonald's All-American game, and one of them is that Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Bryan Antoine will deliver a national title to Villanova.

I've been on the record that I believe the Wildcats would win another championship in the next five years, and Evans now echoes that sentiment, only he believes it will happen by 2022, led by this year's incoming class.

Obviously, a lot can change over time, especially when dealing with five-star, top 15 prospects. Players of that caliber have NBA expectations, and it's impossible to know how long a stay JRE or Antoine will have on the Main Line. Combined with other variables like transfers, injuries, player development, and the makeup of the competition, along with the unpredictable nature of the NCAA tournament, such predictions are hard to make with any kind of certainty.

Still, it's easy to see the potential. Robinson-Earl and Antoine project as elite, immediate-impact contributors. Eric Dixon and Justin Moore appear primed for long, fruitful Villanova careers that mimic the trajectory of some other recent Villanova greats (Paschall, Booth). The growth of Saddiq Bey and Jermaine Samuels provided a dose of optimism to the disappointing end of the season. Collin Gillespie's toughness and shot-making ability and the hope for more progression from Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree add to that optimism. The shooting ability of Cole Swider and athleticism of Brandon Slater remain tantalizing, while Jahvon Quinerly remains a wildcard as we await definitive word on his future.

But the pieces in place, combined with future recruiting classes that should remain highly-touted, help to create a sense of optimism around the program, and people are taking notice.

Corey Evans Notes Robinson-Earl in AA Game Takeaways

Rivals' Corey Evans published a roundup of Wednesday's McDonald's All-American game, giving out some awards. Villanova's Jeremiah Robinson-Earl earned the title "Most College-Ready." Here's what Evans had to say about JRE:

"While there are still questions about his athleticism at the highest level, his smarts, feel for the game, ability to be in the right spot at the right time and defensive versatility makes Robinson-Earl arguably the most college-ready of the McDonald's All-Americans. Headed to Villanova to play for an elite tactician in Jay Wright, Robinson-Earl might have a multi-year stay on the Main Line but he is also going to maximize all of the talent that he was given and accrue a hefty amount of wins before he opts for the NBA."

Robinson-Earl was expected to make an immediate impact at Nova, and that expectation continues. He played well Wednesday night against some of the most elite talent in his class, and it will be exciting to see what he can do in a Villanova uniform.

Tim Delaney to Play at Adelphi University Next Season

Following his graduation in May, Villanova forward Tim Delaney will continue his education and college basketball career at Adelphi University in Garden City, NY, the school announced Tuesday evening.

Delaney appeared in 37 games for Villanova as he battled through a myriad of injuries, including three hip surgeries. He leaves Villanova with 133 wins, three Big East titles, three Big East tournament titles, and two national championships. He was also named to the Big East All-Academic team three times. While his career on the court was limited, his determination and perseverance were inspirational.

"Tim has been an integral member of our team for the last four years," said head coach Jay Wright. "He has been a leader and inspirational teammate as he's battled through numerous injuries."

With a business degree in hand, Delaney will join his brother, Andrew, on the team at Adelphi as he pursues his master's degree. Thanks to Tim for his contributions to the program, and we wish him the best as he begins his next chapter.

BET Champs!

How about them Wildcats?!

How's everyone feeling? Thoughts on seeding? Takeaways from the game/the BET run? Expectations for the tournament? Let's enjoy this together and talk some Nova basketball!

I'm thinking we'll get a 5 seed tomorrow.

My biggest takeaway from the BET was the clear "attitude." They truly grinded their way to that title, handling adversity and relying on defense, rebounding, toughness, and hustle. I think that's huge for their NCAA tournament prospects.

As I mentioned in the recap, I loved the ball movement today. Lots of extra passes, correct passes, and smooth and fluid ball movement. Another indication they could be grasping the core of Villanova basketball.

I have a few concerns, but I'll save those for later in the week. However, I'd love to hear anything that is giving you all pause about our chances going forward.

I'm incredibly happy for Phil and Eric and so proud of this team. Hope everyone enjoyed the game, and again I'd love to hear from you. Can't wait for tomorrow and next week!

Justin Moore Earns Attention at Alhambra Classic

Rivals' Corey Evans took in the Alhambra Classic and shared eight takeaways from the event. One of those takeaways regarded future Wildcat Justin Moore, who Evans believes will be the perfect replacement for Phil Booth and will make a strong push for minutes as a freshman. Evans lauded Moore's shot-making ability.

Here's what he had to say:

"The Justin Moore-Phil Booth comparisons will be a constant next season. While Jay Wright wasn’t the most lenient with his playing time geared towards Villanova’s freshmen this year outside of Saddiq Bey, Justin Moore will force his coach’s hand next year thanks to his tremendous shot-making prowess. Out goes Booth and in comes the DeMatha product to fill his place which will force the talking heads to throwing out non-stop comparisons between the two, reflecting Moore’s value and abilities in the backcourt."

While Villanova still has business to take care of this season, the temptation to peek ahaed to next year and the impressive incoming class is strong. Moore, Bryan Antoine, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, and Eric Dixon have garnered glowing reviews throughout their senior seasons, creating more excitement for next year. Jay Wright did a superb job with the class of 2019, and it should be incredibly fun to watch that group do their thing at Villanova.

Eric Dixon - 2019

Eric Dixon, Villanova's 2019, 4 Star BB recruit, 6'7", 260 lb., Power Forward scored 38 points, with 15 rebounds, for Abington HS, PA, in a playoff game last week. Abington won 74-71, in over time.

Dixon was double teamed the entire game, and still managed to score 38 points.
He now has 2200+ points for his HS career. He will be a big part of the 2019 incoming class, which could be the best ever assembled at Villanova.

Abington plays today at Council Rock South HS, in a State playoff game.
Their season record is 27-1.

Big East Tournament Seeding

If Nova beats S. Hall on Sat., Nova wins the regular season BE Championship and becomes the #1 seed in the BET.
If Nova loses on Sat., and Marquette wins, Nova and MU tie for the League Championship.

If Nova and Marquette tie for the League Championship, and St. Johns beats Xavier on Sat.,
Nova gets the #1 seed in the Big East Tournament.
If they tie, and Xavier beats St. Johns, MU gets the #1 seed.

If Nova and MU both lose on Sat., Nova wins the League Championship.

The #1 seed plays the afternoon game - more time to rest for the next game.

Down go the Gold!

20+ years of hatred of Marquette does not go away when you change your school. So seeing the Gold aka Golden Eagles aka Warriors lose even though Booth and Paschall basically took a big dump on the court with their shooting, made me quite happy. I think a potential third scorer was found; now Jay just needs to ensure he gets his touches and shots.

I am still uncertain what to think about JQ... does not even get into the game?

Another Warning

At Saturday mass, our pastor once again warned us of a possible attack. He went so far as to say he would not leave the altar even if he were shot. This is now the third time he's brought up a possible attack. I go to a church which has a very large Congregation. I'd say there are at least 700 - 800 people at the Saturday night mass. So, terrorists could kill an awful lot of people if they attacked. It's pretty eerie to think about it and it sure is strange that this was the third time we've been warned in the last 6 months.
