Jay Wright on the trail

Just wanted to drop by and let you all know that Jay Wright was at Archbishop Spalding last night for their game with Baltimore (Md.) Mount St. Joseph.

I was there to watch St. Joe's and spotted Jay as soon as I walked into the gym. He was there for Rivals150 4-star PF Jalen 'Sticks' Smith who had a solid outing, but played just 3 quarters in a blowout.

Smith was at Villanova last week for a visit and says Nova is recruiting him hard along with Maryland and a few others.

One other note, remember the name James Bishop. He's a 2019 6-2 combo guard that plays for St. Joe's and is going to be a high major prospect.

Looking At Brunson's Cousy Award Chances

Yesterday, Jalen Brunson was named a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award. It was some much-deserved recognition for Brunson, but you won't find too many people who would list him as a favorite to win the award. Here we do a little comparison with the other candidates. Regardless of who wins the award in April, Jalen 100% deserved to be on the prestigious list.

Xavier Loses Sumner To Torn ACL

More sad injury news from the Big East. After Creighton was devastated by the loss of Maurice Watson Jr. a few weeks ago, now Xavier is dealing with the loss of a key playmaker in Edmond Sumner. Sumner was averaging 15 points, five assists, and 4.3 rebounds for the Musketeers, and Xavier now joins Creighton in trying to replace major backcourt contributors and offensive catalysts. It's a big blow to a team who entered the season's with designs on a deep tournament run. It's also a blow to the Big East, which has now seen two of their top four programs suffer a significant injury, just as the conference was announcing itself as a major player nationally. Wishing Edmond a speedy recovery.

Creighton's Watson Suffers Torn ACL

After Watson left Monday's game against Xavier with a knee injury, Creighton's worst fears were confirmed: Watson has a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season. This is sad news as Watson was having a stellar season, leading the country in assists with 8.8 per game and the Bluejays were having an incredible season. The loss of Watson is a huge blow to a team that had legitimate hopes of a deep run in March, and one that was playing a key role in the resurgence of the Big East on the national stage. It will be interesting to see how they respond.

Nova Returns to Top Spot in AP Poll

In somewhat of a surprise, Villanova edged out Kansas for the #1 spot in this week's AP Poll. Kansas grabbed 32 first-place votes to Nova's 28, but the Cats edged them in total points 1,580 to 1,562.

The Coaches poll came out the way most people expected, with Kansas atop the poll with 23 first-place votes and 785 points. Nova isn't far behind, grabbing only four first-place votes but racking up 759 points.
