Young Cats Lead

Playing a rivalry game in a band box, the young Cats played with a high basketball IQ and tremendous poise. IQ and valuing possessions is a strength that we haven't experienced enough of over the years. Brunson is as advertised and Bridges is giving this team a ton and playing nearly starter minutes. Booth is an assassin with a complete night and career high from Jenkins. Hart just keeps raising his game as the best player on the floor. We have quality seniors and they will have the say in how far we go. Nice stretch by the Chief in the second half but needs to ring the bell from the start - good to see he recovered and played more at ease down the stretch. Love Arch and all he brings but need to see the end of the 2 for 1 end of half/game possession approach. Its a good idea if getting good shots but he forces a bad 3 at the 40 second mark. Trying to bury it but that end of first half heave was reminiscent of the March night in Pittsburgh that led to the opponent run and Wildcat shock. Get a good shot or just play out the possession and we enter end of games situations in a stronger position.

Safe travels to the Islands and take down the Sooners!!

3-point shooting

How does the No. 1 team in KenPom get better? By making some outside shots.

50.3% of our shot attempts are threes. That's 6th-most in the nation. The problem is we're 245th in 3-point percentage (30.9%).

Practically everyone on our team is shooting the three worse this season.

Shooting worse
- Hart: 46%-->33%
- Booth: 49%-->32%
- Jenkins: 37%-->32%

Shooting better
- Arch: 37%-->39%

The newcomers are worse, too.
- Hilliard: 38%, Ennis: 36%
- Brunson: 29%, Bridges 24%, DiVincenzo 19%

- I don't know how well Brunson, Bridges and Donte will shoot this season.
- I also don't think Hart and Booth will match last season's percentages, since I don't think either can sustain that pace.

What does this mean?
This means that we have a chance to get even better. We take a ton of threes, a lot of them open, and we don't make that many of them. When they start to fall, we'll get even better.

This is also why Jenkins shooting well is so important. His main role on the team is to take threes to stretch the floor. He's taken the most threes on the team this season, and we all know he has a pretty stroke. We've seen Booth and Hart shoot over 40%, it would be nice if Kris could get there this season.

Rahm Emanuel's Chicago

So let's recap.
  1. Teenager gets murdered by a cop after being shot while clearly incapacitated on October 20, 2014. There is dashcam video of said shooting that clearly shows what happens.
  2. Unpopular mayor is in the midst of the most contentious re-election in the history of his office.
  3. Mayor is finally re-elected in April after failing to win a majority in the February primary.
  4. Freelance journalist files FOIA request, and finally after 400 days video is finally released and cop is charged with what anyone watching the video for two seconds knew should have happened a year earlier.
  5. People justifiably angry.
  6. Police chief fired.
What do you think about this, BustaNutter?

early kenpom indicators

Strange collection of stats:
  • We are 10th in the country in 2P% and 15th in turnover rate. Those are the two things we are doing really well on the offensive end.
  • We are 320th in FTA per FGA. Very strange that we shoot so well inside the arc, but no one cares to foul us much.
  • We are 1st in the country in defensive efficiency. Among other things, we are 3rd in effective FG% allowed and 7th in turnover rate on that end.
  • It is amazing that we have held onto that #1 position despite being 291st in defensive rebounding rate.
Couple interesting points on St. Joseph's(PA): (1) They are 263rd in offensive rebounding percentage, so not ideally positioned to expose us in that area. (2) They are 346th in 3P% - at 23.7%. That is 6th worst in the country. It will be interesting to see how the adrenaline affects them in each area.

Miami

Speaking in Paris, POTUS just told reporters that fish are swimming in the streets of Miami after rain storms. It's because of climate change. I guess I missed that! Anyone on BW live in Miami who can confirm it? If it's true, I'm headed off to the nearest coal mine to demonstrate!

TV coverage

I thought there used to be a small icon or some indication on the schedule about who was televising the games but it doesn't seem to be there anymore (assuming it ever was) - is there anyplace on the board to find out that info? I am a luddite and don't want to keep checking my cable provider's listings if i can avoid it.
Thanks
