Could not agree more about the TMNT movie, Workaholics and Amy Schumer. Went into all of those with low expectations and was wowed. Back to my banal questions...
What valuable things has your old man taught you about the following topics?
-women = never hit a woman under any circumstances. Was about 7-8 years old when I was fighting with my sister. At the time, my dad seemed like a giant when he picked me by my collar and told me he would smash my face in if I ever hit a girl again. Some things stick with you.
-work -1) Don't be a lawyer and 2) work hard before you turn 40. After turning 40, he makes it seem like it's impossible because there is a lot less energy and motivation.
-sports - Don't rag on teammates for losing a game for the team. Though I've heard the story 50x, he blew HS Penn Relays for his team in the shot put when all he needed was to throw 30' or something (and he averaged about 40') when he fouled out. He said not a single teammate voiced their anger about it. Can happen to anyone, taught me a lot about team sports and why you play the game.
-family - Be home for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day. No exceptions. A lot of families don't do that.
-humor - Know your audience before cracking a controversial joke.
Please describe ADP's ducking you in more detail? Has it happened multiple times? Is there a chance that you just couldn't see the pint-sized pike in the crowd? - If he says he wasn't ducking me, fine. But man, it really felt like it. I was in Pitt for the game visiting some friends. We were all fired up for the game and ready to barhop. I had ADP's email beforehand because he was going to try to scalp a few extra tickets if the price was right. I don't blame him for not helping out on that front, but when he emailed me 4-5x with different bar locations and then wasn't there when I dragged my friends to those spots, it rubbed me the wrong way.
Let's say you get stuck in the CoP for life. Will NN1189 and NN1190 be Phillies fans? Would you adopt the Phillies (again)? -- Not many things are non-negotiable in life. My fanhood in most sports is up for grabs on a yearly basis (Hold 'Nova and Mets). I firmly believe the Mets are in my DNA on the Y Chromosome. I can't imagine my sons not being Met fans, daughters can do what they feel. I wouldn't have an issue if my sons were eagles/flyers fans, but not phillies. I still think about the 07-08 seasons and my time at 'Nova watching that happen. I thought things couldn't get worse than those 2 seasons until the 09 season nightmare.
Do you work with any 4for4ers? If so, please describe their 4for4-ness. The great majority of people who work in my office are fans of the CoP teams, but I wouldn't classify them as 4for4ers. Most have 1-2 sports that they prefer, not diehard in all. Couple big flyers fans, but they don't really care about the other teams. General apathy to the phillies/76ers because they are so bad. This town revolves around the eagles, it's pretty pathetic actually. That's why I'm enjoying my time with the Cows, but I'm thinking I might switch after this season.
