Hey, did we have anything on the books for this season? I know we were close on the Hamels but that never came to fruition. I'd like to get something going for the board to monitor. Let me know if you have any ideas. We can make it Nats centric this year if you'd like.

Harper over 28.5 homeruns. I'll take the over $100.

6 errors in 8 games for Desmond. That is staggeringly bad. Like first year of little league B minor bad.

Desmond completely blowing in April is an annual rite of passage. It's like tax day and spring showers. Happens every year.

He's so good. If he stays healthy, always the "if" forget it. Watching him every day he does something you rarely see. People forget he's also going to be 22 this entire season. Younger than Kris Bryant or any of these next young studs to be. Harper has taken the post season success and built upon it. Hopefully he stays healthy. If so, he'll be on the short list for NL MVP. Special player and I enjoy-appreciate watching him grow.

I checked his career stats, and in his 5-6 years as a full time starter, he has ranged between 15 and 34 errors, averaging 23.2 per season. So I will propose a friendly $50 wager, payable to charity of the winner's choice, that Desmond is over 23.5 errors for the season. Let me know if that works for you.

A rite of spring. Wouldn't be an adp baseball post about the Nationals if it weren't replete with "if healthy" qualifiers.

This Nats team and its fans would be best served by moving beyond the "injuries" and self-inflicted injury-scare shutdown excuses that have bogged them down in past years, along with the patented Nats corollary "we overcame so many injuries" chest thumping that perhaps distracted them heading into the playoffs. Nobody cares about how many games Werth or RZimmerman missed with their latest 'roid withdrawal injury.

Injuries are a part of the game. 162 game season played almost every day. Sack up and win.

I really wanna take this bet as well but you're going to have to up that number Tomdudes. He has 6 through like 6 games. You set it at 28 and if it's a push we both donate I'm in.

Also, ADP, I love Harper, but it's a little early to throw all those superlatives out there. I've watched most of the Nats game this season and I kinda know what you're saying because there's just a different feel when he's at the plate, but he still isn't performing all that well (read: MVP level). I know he's 22 and what he's doing would be pretty much unprecedented if it wasn't for Mike Trout having some of the best seasons of all time at the same ages, but I'm not ready to go to guaranteed Super Star yet. I believe he was leading the league in k's and hasn't shown he can string together long stretches of great play. I look forward to watching him develop and hope that he does turn into the next Mantle.

P.S. ADP, sent you an email.

selmore, let's see what adp has to say about the number.
Desmond's errors? Desmond is the perfect example of how power at the SS is over-valued. Someone will significantly overpay him. Great guy, he deserves as much as the next overpaid ballplayer. I'll be happy for him personally but not sad to see him go.

The fact that Desmond is still in DC perhaps is a reflection that someone will not overpay him. He's basically playing out of position at shortstop, no chance he's going to improve there at his age, and given he had 28 errors last year and is off to a quick start this year as well in terms of errors. Need to consider what he's worth as a first baseman or maybe a corner outfielder if he can play there. Not as much.

Most teams that lack the Nats' starting pitching (basically all teams) cannot tolerate a butcher like that at short, they're more interested in a player that provides outstanding defense day in day out and a still very solid bat, like Rollins. And Desmond is not an offensive player on the level of A-Rod in his heyday where you just deal with it.

His next contract will be worth over $100 million. Someone's going to pay it.

I'll bet against this as the total base value on Desmond's next contract, guaranteed (non-option) years only. For $150 straight up?

He should get 5 years. It will be close and maybe. Someone uses Hanley's deal. However, as a SS I see him getting 5 at 100+. We'll factor in buyouts as those count. You're on.

He's a SS now, but how much longer does that last? A move to 3B, maybe LF in his future. Let's not forget I predicted Zimmerman's move and Rsmirez's positional changes well in advance.
