Official Release:
Villanova sophomore guard Phil Booth (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph High School) underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Wednesday afternoon. The surgery was performed by Villanova Team Surgeon Dr. William Emper.

“Phil is as mentally tough a young man as we have had at Villanova,” stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. “He continually impresses our coaching staff with his outstanding attitude. Phil will attack this recovery challenge with great determination, as he does everything in life.”

Booth played a pivotal role in Villanova’s 2016 NCAA national championship season, never more so than in the 77-74 victory over North Carolina on April 4 in Houston. The 6-3 guard connected on 6-of-7 field goal attempts and all six of his free throws to finish with a season high 20 points that night at NRG Stadium.

For the season, Booth appeared in all 40 games played by the Wildcats, averaging 21.9 minutes, 7.0 points and 2.2 assists per outing.

A 6-8 week recovery is anticipated from this procedure. Booth will be under the care of Villanova Team Physician Dr. Michael Duncan and Dr. Emper as he recovers.
